RESTING IN GOD

1 Chronicles 29: 10-12

Yours, O Lord, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.

1 Chronicles 29:11(NRSV)

            When we forget that everything comes from God, it is invariably because we have displaced him from our lives. Then monsters begin to emerge: arrogance, authoritarianism, the desire for absolute power. And so a death spiral opens. At that point we think that we can achieve victory by our own strength; then we cease walking with God and disaster becomes imminent, although we don’t recognize it at the moment.

            In this episode about David, biblical faith scales one of the highest summits. For him everything comes from God. Reflecting on his victorious campaigns and the increase in his riches, this prayer of total dependence springs from his heart. Prayer is the sign of maturity which is reached by those who seek in God the disposition of each day. God is sovereign over history, over our history. We can rest in Him.

 

Prayer: Loving God of infinite tenderness, may your presence walk in our midst so that with humility we may recognize the rest that we have in you. Amen.

DESCANSANDO EN DIOS

1 Crónicas 29: 10-12

Tuya es,  Jehová,  la magnificencia y el poder, la gloria, la victoria y el honor;  porque todas las cosas que están en los cielos y en la tierra son tuyas.  Tuyo, Jehová, es el reino, y tú eres excelso sobre todos.

1 Crónicas 29:11

            Cuando olvidamos que todo procede de Dios, invariablemente es porque lo hemos desplazado de nuestras vidas. Comienzan entonces a emerger los monstruos: la prepotencia, el autoritarismo, las ansias de poder absoluto. Se abre así una espiral de la caída. En este punto creemos poder lograr la victoria por nuestros esfuerzos, entonces dejamos de caminar con Dios, y el desastre se vuelve inminente, aunque no lo reconozcamos de momento.

            En este episodio de David, la fe bíblica escala una de las más altas cumbres. Para él todo procede de Dios. A propósito de las campañas victoriosas, del aumento de las riquezas, de su corazón brota esta oración de dependencia total. Oración que es signo de la madurez que alcanzan quienes buscan en Dios la provisión de cada día. Dios es soberano de la historia, de nuestra historia. Podemos descansar en Él.

 

Oración: Amante Dios, de ternuras infinitas, que tu presencia ande en medio nuestro y así humildemente reconozcamos  el descanso que en ti tenemos. Amén.
