Luke 10:25-37

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it

Hebrews 13:2 (NIV)

            The Jews had a saying: “There are six things of which fruit a man eats in this world and by which his state is elevated in the world to come”. And the list starts with: “To offer hospitality to the stranger and to visit the sick”. In our churches we emphasize visitation, but what about hospitality? Three Bible characters offered hospitality without knowing who they were hosting: Abraham, Gideon and Manoah. There are times when it is difficult for us to receive even friends. Being hospitable goes beyond sharing material goods, it is being ready to help, to share words of encouragement, to share a simple home remedy to relieve a headache. Some, when asked for hospitality, claim that their homes are not spacious or comfortable enough, but even so, many people would be grateful for our welcome. Let us open our doors and hearts to those who come to us seeking spiritual and material shelter. Let us meditate: are there people in our communities who require our hospitality, and is there a way in which we can meet the needs of those who approach us? Let us allow ourselves to be warm, caring and try to make people feel comfortable around us. Let us be hospitable, who knows, maybe we too will shelter angels.

 

 Prayer: Loving Father, You have lovingly welcomed us into Your family, thank You for Your goodness. Allow us to learn to shed prejudices, fears, teach us to be more hospitable. Amen.

BRINDANDO TODO DE MI

Lucas 10:25-37

No os olvidéis de la hospitalidad, porque por ella algunos, sin saberlo, hospedaron ángeles

Hebreos 13:2

            Los judíos tenían un dicho: “Hay seis cosas cuyo fruto come el hombre en este mundo y por las que su estado se eleva en el mundo venidero”. Y la lista empieza por: “Ofrecer hospitalidad al forastero y visitar al enfermo”. En nuestras iglesias hacemos énfasis en la visitación, pero ¿y la hospitalidad? Tres personajes de la Biblia la ofrecieron sin tener conocimiento de a quién hospedaban: Abraham, Gedeón y Manoa. Hay momentos en los cuales nos resulta difícil recibir incluso a los amigos. Ser hospitalarios va más allá de compartir bienes materiales, es estar prestos a la ayuda, a compartir palabras de aliento, compartir un simple remedio casero para aliviar un dolor de cabeza. Algunos ante una petición de hospitalidad alegan que sus hogares no son lo bastantes amplios o cómodos, pero aun así muchas personas se sentirían agradecidas por nuestra acogida. Abramos nuestras puertas y corazones a aquellos que llegan a nosotros buscando cobijo espiritual y material. Meditemos: ¿hay en nuestras comunidades personas que requieren nuestra hospitalidad? ¿Existe alguna manera en la que podemos suplir las necesidades de quienes se nos acercan? Permitámonos ser cálidos, bondadosos e intentemos que las personas se sientan cómodas a nuestro lado. Seamos hospitalarios, ¿quién sabe?, quizás nosotros también amparemos ángeles,

 

Oración: Amante Padre, Tú nos has acogido con cariño en Tú familia, gracias por tu bondad. Permite que aprendamos a despojarnos de prejuicios, temores, enséñanos a ser más hospitalarios. Amén.
