Seeing Is Believing

John 20: 24-29

Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

John 20:29 (NRSV)

When we read this passage there immediately comes to mind the phrase “Seeing is believing,” and the great criticism Thomas received for his lack of belief. However, how many times do we not act like him! As human beings we need to see and feel for ourselves the truth of the things told to us by others. That’s why for the thousands of years since this passage was written, so many Christian communities gather to worship and to hear testimonies of faith that affirm the truth of the Resurrection.

How can we see God resurrected in our daily lives? How can we see life in the midst of so many deaths? How do we see hope in the midst of so much uncertainty and so much chaos? How can we see the light at the end of the tunnel? All of these questions have the same response today: Seeing is believing. We cling to God who is companionship, strength, miracle, health, hope, who is the way, the truth, and life. Touching the risen Christ is embracing those we love, is touching other hands to pray together, is drying the tears of those who suffer, is helping our neighbor to travel through life with joy and gratitude for a God who accompanies us, aids us, and sustains us.

 

Prayer: God of life, today may we see you and feel you in all that we do and say. May we be able to share the hope of your resurrection and the hope of life that only comes from you. Bless and us and stay with us now and always. Amen.

Creer para ver

Juan 20: 24-29

Jesús les dijo: ¿Crees que me has visto? ¡Dichosos los quecreen sin haber visto!

Cuando leemos este pasaje enseguida nos viene al recuerdo la frase “Ver para creer”, y las grandes críticas que recibeTomás por su incredulidad. Sin embargo, ¡cuántas veces no actuamos como él! Los seres humanos tenemos que ver y experimentar por sí mismos la veracidad de las cosas contadas por otros. Por eso a miles de años de este pasaje, las múltiples comunidades cristianas se reúnen para adorar y para escuchar testimonios de fe que afirman la verdad de la Resurrección.

¿Cómo ver al Dios resucitado en nuestra vida diaria? ¿Cómo ver vida en medio de tantas muertes? ¿Cómo ver la esperanza en medio de tanta incertidumbre y tanto caos?¿Cómo ver la luz al final del túnel? Todas estas preguntas tienen hoy la misma respuesta: creer para ver. Aferrarnos al Dios que es compañía, fuerzas, milagro, sanidad, esperanza, que es camino, verdad y vida. Tocar al Cristo resucitado es abrazar a las personas que amamos, es tocar otras manos para orar juntos, es limpiar las lágrimas de quienes sufren, es ayudar al prójimo a caminar por la vida con el gozo y la gratitud de un Dios que nos acompaña, nos cuida y nos sostiene.

 

Oración: Dios de la vida, que hoy podamos verte y sentirte en todo lo que hagamos y digamos. Que podamos compartir la esperanza de tu resurrección y la esperanza de vida que solo viene de ti. Bendícenos y acompáñanos hoy y siempre. Amén.
