Lord, Save Us

Matthew 8: 23-27

And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?”

Matthew 8:26 (NRSV)

If Jesus were to ask us today. July 4, 2023, “why so afraid?” we would reply: a lot; there are so may fears that suppress joy. We have daily blackout storms, a lack of food, few medicines, and many diseases. The news is overwhelming that the world seems to be in total chaos. We are afraid because we have been sinking for a long time, and we have to save ourselves. Save us who are in the same boat and also those who are sinking other seas like ours.

We awake every morning as survivors of life’s storms. We are shipwrecked in the sea of troubles due to so many needs and shortages. But Jesus becomes our boat to keep us sailing and overcoming the enormous waves of uncertainty. Jesus today, as at the time of this passage, holds the same power to calm all storms, those physical and spiritual storms that would prevent us from moving forward and following. In the midst of such despair, today we awake to Jesus in our hearts and again he reminds us that we have little faith. Let’s not be afraid, because Jesus has the power to bring peace in the midst of storms.

 

Prayer: Jesus, save us from fears, apathy, and the despair of daily sadnesses. Return hope and peace to us. Give us calm and wisdom today to make this day swim through calm waters. Give us the faith needed to continue sailing with you and with the presence of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Mateo 8: 23-27

Él les contestó: ¿Por qué tanto miedo? ¡Qué poca fe tienenustedes!

Si Jesús nos preguntara a nosotros hoy, 4 de julio del 2023, ¿porqué tanto miedo? Responderíamos: muchos; son muchos los miedos que oprimen las alegrías. Diariamente tenemo savalanchas de tormentas de apagones, de falta de alimentos, medicamentos y muchas enfermedades. Abrumadoras noticias donde el mundo pareciera un total caos. Miedo tenemos porque ya llevamos mucho tiempo hundiéndonos y necesitamos salvarnos. Salvarnos quienes estamos en la misma barca y quienes también se hunden en otros mares como el nuestro.

Despertamos cada mañana como sobrevivientes de las tormentas de la vida. Naufragamos en el mar de los sinsabores por tantas necesidades y escaseces. Pero Jesús se convierte en nuestra barca para mantenernos navegando y superando las enormes olas de incertidumbres. Jesús, como en aquel entonces del pasaje, hoy tiene el mismo poder para calmar todas las tormentas. Esas tormentas físicas y espirituales que nos impiden avanzar y seguir. En medio de tanto desespero hoy volvemos a despertar a Jesús en nuestros corazones y vuelve a recordarnos que tenemos poca fe. No tengamos miedo, porque Jesús tiene el poder de traer paz en medio de las tormentas.

 

Oración: Sálvanos Jesús, de los miedos, las apatías, los desesperos y las tristezas diarias. Devuélvenos la esperanza y lapaz. Danos hoy calma y sabiduría para hacer de este día unandar por aguas tranquilas. Danos la fe necesaria para continuar navegando contigo y con la presencia de tu Espíritu Santo. Amén.
