JANUARY 31, WEDNESDAY

THE ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS IS AN OPPORTUNITY

Mark 6: 1 -6

Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples.

Mark 6:1 (NIV)

When our life is oriented toward the unimportant, towards that which does not edify, that which does not nourish our spirituality, or our hope; we miss the encounter with God.

Jesus arrives in Nazareth to share his teachings, but the unbelief, the unimportant questioning, the prejudice, and the superficiality of those who encounter him prevented him from doing so.

In this way they miss the opportunity for the good news that Jesus brings them; they refuse to open themselves to the surprise, to the possibility of discovering that good can come from those we least expect, that God can come through those who we least consider trustworthy for his manifestation. 

These attitudes do not prevent the manifestation of God, of his good news in the world, but they do limit our opportunity to receive it, to experience it. Let us ask God today to unprejudice us, to prevent our absurd denials of Jesus’ message.

 

Prayer: Son of the carpenter, Son of God, brother, and Teacher, help us to accept your presence, to open ourselves to the ways you come and knock at our doors. Amen.

ENERO 31, MIERCOLES

EL ENCUENTRO CON JESÚS ES OPORTUNIDAD.

Marcos 6: 1 -6

Salió Jesús de allí y vino a su tierra, y le seguían sus discípulos

Marcos 6:1

Cuando nuestra vida se orienta hacia lo no importante, hacia lo que no edifica, aquello que no alimenta nuestra espiritualidad, tampoco nuestra esperanza; nos perdemos el encuentro con Dios.

Jesús llega a Nazaret para compartir sus enseñanzas, pero la incredulidad, los cuestionamientos sin importancia, los prejuicios y la superficialidad de quienes se encontró lo impidieron.

De esta manera se pierden la oportunidad de buena noticia que les trae Jesús, se niegan el abrirse a la sorpresa, a la posibilidad de descubrir que lo bueno puede llegar de quienes menos esperamos, que Dios puede llegar a través de quienes menos consideramos confiables para su manifestación.

Estas actitudes no impiden la manifestación de Dios, de su buena nueva en el mundo, en cambio limitan nuestra oportunidad de recibirla, de experimentarla. Pidamos a Dios en este dia que nos desprejuicie, que impida nuestras

negaciones absurdas al mensaje de Jesús.

 

Oración: Hijo del carpintero, Hijo de Dios, hermano y Maestro ayúdanos a aceptar tu presencia, a abrirnos a las maneras que llegas y tocas a nuestras puertas. Amén.

JANUARY 30, TUESDAY

FROM TOUCHING, FROM FEELING

Mark 5: 1-43

If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.

Mark 5:28 (NIV)

The act of being touched and letting ourselves be touched by those around us implies a necessary dose of sensitivity, of feeling and an openness from our feelings to the situations experienced by those around us.

We have in front of us a story where the profound and human sensitivity of Jesus becomes evident through the touch that recognizes, restores, and raises from death two human beings, both women, nameless, one of whom, because of uncontrollable bleeding, is separated and ignored; the other, barely 12 years old and in agony. In their midst, Jesus, who works miracles of sensitivity, identifies with what they are experiencing and heals them.

In order to follow the way of Jesus, we need to gather all possible sensitivity we can and for this we must recognize what our sisters and brothers are living with, touch them with our lives and let ourselves be touched by theirs. During this devotional time, let us make a personal compromise before God not to neglect our sensitivity.

 

Prayer: God, lead us to the human, renewing touch that sustains and strengthens the lives of your daughters and sons. Amen.

ENERO 30, MARTES

DESDE EL TOCAR, DESDE EL SENTIR

Marcos 5: 1-43

Si tocare tan solamente su manto, seré salva.

Marcos 5:28

El acto de ser tocados y dejarnos tocar por quienes están a nuestro alrededor implica una necesaria dosis de sensibilidad, de sentir y apertura desde nuestros sentimientos ante a las situaciones que experimentan quienes nos rodean.

Nos entramos ante un relato donde la sensibilidad profunda y humana de Jesús se hace evidente mediante el toque que reconoce, restaura y levanta de la muerte: dos seres humanos, ambas mujeres, sin nombres, una de ellas, por una hemorragia incontenible, es apartada, ignorada; la otra, apenas tiene 12 años y agoniza. En medio de ellas Jesús, quien obra el milagro de la sensibilidad, se identifica con lo que viven y las sana.

Para seguir el camino de Jesús, necesitamos hacer acopio de toda la sensibilidad posible y para ello debemos reconocer lo que viven nuestras hermanas y hermanos, tocarles con nuestra vida y dejarnos tocar por las suyas. En este tiempo devocional hagamos un compromiso personal ante Dios de no descuidar nuestra sensibilidad.

 

Oración : Dios llévanos al toque humano, renovador que sostiene y fortalece la vida de tus hijas y tus hijos. Amén.

 

JANUARY 29, MONDAY

ON MEETING WITH JESUS

Mark 5: 1-20

When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him.

Mark 5:2 (NIV)

Everyone deserves to live in peace, in the love and care of those around him or her. It is not possible for a person to endure for long a similar situation like the one narrated by this passage: a lonely man, in a state of self-laceration, accustomed to living with death and suffering violence, of those who, intending to protect him from himself ended up forcing him, violating him. We do not know the reasons that placed the man in the text in a situation like this, but we can assume that he was in the margins of despair. Perhaps this is why as soon as Jesus jumped from the boat, he went out to meet him in search of his help.

It is possible that we do know someone like this man, who is living today in a similar situation, touching upon the limits of indignity. Let us pray for those who are in these kinds of conditions, asking God to have compassion, listen to their needs, work in their lives, and to restore their dignity.

 

Prayer: Lord, offer us always the opportunity to go to meet you, to find you always in every moment. Amen.

ENERO 29, LUNES

AL ENCUENTRO CON JESÚS

Marcos 5: 1-20

Apenas saltó de la barca, vino a su encuentro, de entre los sepulcros, un hombre con espíritu inmundo

Marcos 5:2

Toda persona merece vivir en paz, en el amor y el cuidado de quienes le rodean. No es posible que persona alguna soporte por mucho tiempo una situación similar como la que se nos narra en el pasaje: Un hombre solo, en estado de autolaceración acostumbrado a convivir con la muerte y sufriendo la violencia de aquellos que intentando protegerlo de si mismo terminaban forzándole, violentándolo. No conocemos los motivos que colocaron al hombre del texto en una situación asi, más si podemos suponer que estaba en las márgenes de la desesperación, quizás por esto apenas Jesús saltó de la barca salió a su encuentro en busca de su ayuda.

Es posible que conozcamos a alguien que como este hombre, esté viviendo hoy una situación semejante, rozando los limites de la indignidad. Hagamos una oración por quienes están en estas condiciones, pidiéndole a Dios que se compadezca, escuche su necesidad, obre en su vida y le restaure su dignidad.

 

Oración: Señor, ofrécenos siempre la oportunidad de ir a tu encuentro, de hallarte siempre a cada momento. Amén.
