SIMPLE ACTS OF FAITH

Mark 6: 53-56

And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

During the difficult months of the pandemic, I learned a Christian hymn that I love, and that has also been embraced by my faith community, who sing it enthusiastically at every liturgy. The title is “Simple,” by Santiago Benavides.

This passage reminded me of this beautiful hymn. Touching the hem of Jesus’ robe may seem like a simple action, but it is an act of faith. Those who approach Jesus are moved only by faith. Sometimes, in our search for answers, for healing, for justice, we may think that we need great acts or demonstrations. However, faith can manifest itself in small gestures. The willingness of people to touch the robe shows that even the simplest acts can be powerful when they are filled with faith.

Prayer: “Give me a simple faith, like the laughter of children at play, like a drop of dew rolling down, like a cross of rustic wood. Give me a simple faith that sits at the table of the poor, that rejoices in bringing joy to their hearts and also cries with their pain. A faith like this, similar to you.” Amen.

SENCILLOS ACTOS DE FE

Marcos 6:  53-56

Por donde iba- fueran aldeas, ciudades o granjas- le llevaban enfermos a las plazas. Le suplicaban que permitiera a los enfermos tocar al menos el fleco de su túnica, y todos los que tocaban a Jesús eran sanados.

Durante los difíciles meses de pandemia aprendí un himno cristiano que me encanta, y que ha sido abrazado también por mi comunidad de fe, quienes lo entonan con entusiasmo en cada liturgia. El título es “Sencilla”, de Santiago Benavides.

Este pasaje me recordó este hermoso himno. El tocar el borde del manto de Jesús, puede parecer una acción simple, pero es un acto de fe. Quienes se acercan a Jesús son movidos únicamente, por la fe. A veces, en nuestra búsqueda de respuestas, de sanación, de justicia, podemos pensar que necesitamos grandes actos o demostraciones. Sin embargo, la fe puede manifestarse en pequeños gestos. La disposición de la gente a tocar el manto muestra que incluso los actos más sencillos, pueden ser poderosos cuando están llenos de fe. 

Oración: “Dame una fe sencilla, como risa de niños cuando juegan, como gota de rocío que se rueda, como cruz de rústica madera. Dame una fe sencilla que se siente a la mesa de los pobres, que se alegre de alegrar los corazones y que llore también con sus dolores. Una fe así, parecida a ti.” Amén.
