TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4

YOUR PLACE IS LOVE AND LIFE.

Mark 5, 25-34

“Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

Mark 5.34 (NRSV)

Previously, Jesus reacted to Jairus’ pleas and agreed to go to his house. He is always disposed to cure, to save. The multitude that had gathered accompanied him to Jairus’ house. Then a woman’s situation bursts onto the scene, a woman who had suffered a hemorrhage for twelve years. In her society, this woman was constantly in a state of impurity which made her, in addition to suffering from the disease itself, live in a state of relative social distancing. It’s impossible to ignore the contrast: while Jairus was an important and socially accepted man, this anonymous woman, for her part, was excluded by her impurity from religious celebrations and removed from a social life.

She merely hears about Jesus and goes to him amid the multitude which she normally avoids, approaches Jesus and touches his cloak which she believed would be sufficient to work a miracle. Jesus stopped, against all social odds, to pay attention to her, and to celebrate her faith.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for your goodness, for the justice you share with us from your love. Amen.

FEBRERO 4, MARTES

TU LUGAR ES EL AMOR Y LA VIDA.

Marcos 5, 25-34
