SON OF GOD
Mark 6, 1-6
Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands!
Mark 6.2b (NRSV)
In the synagogue they were amazed at his wisdom, they showed that they had heard of his mighty works and knew that he had performed miracles. Hence they are initially amazed at the miracles that Jesus performs, even though he has not performed any among them.
Those who had, until now, appeared to express admiration began to appear hostile. Now Jesus is the carpenter and not someone sent from God, the one whom everyone knows well, because his trade was important in the construction of houses and tools for farming. Everyone in the village knows him as the carpenter. They emphasize the identity of Jesus on his mother’s side; given the custom, it was a way of accusing him of being an illegitimate son.
The doubt, apparently slight, is not about what he says and does. They know that he is speaking with wisdom, the testimony precedes him, but they do not honor it. He is the son of Mary; the disbelief is not about what he has done, but about recognizing the divinity of his humanity, that is what they doubt.
Jesus is amazed by the attitude but does not deviate from his mission and continues teaching in the surrounding towns.
Prayer: Lord, teach us to persist in our task in difficult times when doubt persists on all sides. Give us the strength and the integrity to continue working and serving. Amen.

HIJO DE DIOS
Marcos 6, 1-6
