FAITH IN THE MIDST OF THE STORM

Mark 4:35-41

He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?”

Inclement weather has plagued humanity for millennia and has always awakened a hidden fear in us. During Jesus’ time, these phenomena were even more frightening, especially among fisher folk. This tells us that it was quite natural for them to react like that and be scared by such an event. But Jesus remained calm and asked them, “Have you still no faith?”

What does faith mean for us?

Faith is not something that is sought or given, faith is born and exists within us. Having faith is trusting in the plans that God has for each of us, accepting whatever it has to offer.

Just the same as with Jesus’ disciples, now we confront trials and situations which make us doubt or provoke fear, but let us always remember that God is with us and his reign is eternal. With Jesus at our side, there is nothing we need to fear.

Prayer: Beloved God, keep us beneath your protective arm so that we may never lose faith in you and in your glory. Help us to be like Jesus in the face of the storms that strike us. Amen.

FE EN MEDIO DE LA TORMENTA

Marcos 4:35-41

Después dijo Jesús a los discípulos ¿Por qué están asustados? ¿Todavía no tienen fe?

Las inclemencias del tiempo han azotado a la humanidad durante milenios y siempre han despertado en nosotros un miedo oculto. En tiempos de Jesús, estos fenómenos eran aún más temidos, sobre todo entre los pescadores. Esto nos dice que era bastante natural que reaccionaran así y se asustasen ante tal acontecimiento. Pero Jesús actúa tranquilo y les pregunta ¿Todavía no tienen fe?

¿Qué es la fe para nosotros?

La fe no es algo que se busca, ni se entrega, la fe nace y existe dentro de nosotros. Tener fe es confiar en los planes que Dios tiene para cada uno de nosotros y nosotras, aceptando lo que tenga para ofrecernos.

Al igual que los discípulos de Jesús, en la actualidad nos enfrentamos a pruebas y situaciones que nos hacen dudar o nos provocan miedo; pero siempre recordemos que Dios está con nosotros y su reinado es eterno. Al lado de nuestro Señor no tenemos nada que temer.

Oración: Amado Dios, guárdanos bajo tu brazo protector para que nunca perdamos la fe en ti y en tu gloria. Ayúdanos a ser como Jesús ante las tormentas que nos azotan. Amén.
