Monday, October 7 MOVING IN THE SPIRIT ACTS 1:12-14

MOVING IN THE SPIRIT
ACTS 1:12-14
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Acts 1:8 (NRSV)
I would like to solicit our brothers and sisters about this promise on God’s part. The Lord has us clothed with his armor so that we may live joyously in him, beginning with the annunciation of Jesus’ birth in Luke 1: 26-31 where Mary, despite the circumstances, trusted in God and rejoiced.
In the same manner when the Apostles descended from the Mount of Olives after the Ascension of Jesus, they joined in prayer and offered gratitude to God. This example should be followed by us, today's disciples; we should trust that God has given us a joyful power to preach, heal, and even to cast out demons.
To do this we need only follow the teachings that the Master has left us: sharing bread with others, visiting the sick, helping those in need; in this way we may heal with love and drive out the demons of loneliness. There is no other way to be a bearer of the Holy Spirit and witnesses to her presence in us, but by praying in simplicity of heart and spiritual joy; that will make us true disciples of the Lord.

Prayer: We ask to be your worthy witnesses by the simplicity of your call. Amen.

MOVERNOS EN EL ESPÍRITU
HECHOS 1:12-14

Sunday, October 6 World Communion Sunday Anniversary of the Presbyterian-Reformed Church “Lutgarda Rodríguez” (Calabazar de Sagua) A SHOCK LUKE 17:5-10

A SHOCK
LUKE 17:5-10
Do you thank the slave for doing what was commanded?
Luke 17: 9 (NRSV)
Sometimes when we read Jesus’ words in the Bible, we have a hard time understanding their meaning, especially things which were said in contexts that are very different from our own. It’s possible that such would be our impression on reading this passage from Luke 15: 5-10, the time in which the disciples asked the Lord to increase their faith.
The Lord responds with a reproach, but we almost miss the question, How do you increase something that is practically non-existent? Jesus tells them that their faith is not even like a mustard seed, for if it were so, they could do extraordinary things.
The following story is even more confusing: a slave works in the field, and when he returns, he must first serve his master because that is what he is ordered to do.
Each of these examples is like a shock to our faith, like “shock therapy” to awaken it, to make us aware that faith can move mountains and that it is our responsibility and duty to maintain and cultivate it.

Prayer: Lord, may your words be the “shocks” necessary to increase our faith. Amen.

UNA SACUDIDA
LUCAS 17:5-10

RECONCILIATION QUESTIONS
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17-21

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ,
and has given us the ministry of reconciliation
2 Corinthians 5:18 (NRSV)
A few years ago, I was part of a course at the Evangelical Theological Seminary, and one of the classes, whose name I do not remember, was taught by a professor from the Quaker denomination. I had heard that some members of that denomination were very good at conflict resolution, but I had never witnessed something of the sort.
In one of the class debates, a sister verbally attacked another with a distasteful comment about her Church. Automatically, an absolute silence fell on the class. Without changing expression, the professor asked the aggressor to repeat her comment slowly and in a clear voice so that all of us could hear.
He also started to ask her questions without allowing anyone else except her to reply: “Why do you say that?” “Do you feel all right?” “How do you think the others feel?” “What do you think you should do now?” He was unraveling the questions in such a calm manner.
At the end of the replies, the atmosphere had become relaxed; we had all witnessed a small example of reconciliation without speeches, without sermons, only with questions.

Prayer: God, let us be timely agents of reconciliation with our fellow humans so that we may be with those most alienated. Amen.

PREGUNTAS DE RECONCILIACIÓN
2 CORINTIOS 5:17-21

Friday, October 4 THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN KEPT SECRET PSALM 78: 1-5

Friday, October 4
THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN KEPT SECRET
PSALM 78: 1-5
incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
Psalm 78:1b (NRSV)
God has always communicated with us from the beginning of time. As Psalm 19 proclaims, “The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.” God talks to us in so many ways. From the most diverse and wonderful manifestations of nature to the message of coexistence that we share with the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and the animals that populate the earth. All creation establishes a constant dialogue in our environment in different ways. In the Old Testament times God spoke through the prophets by means of dreams and visible signs.  Then, the evangelist John called “signs” the many ways in which God revealed himself through the words and teachings of Jesus.
Jesus said things that surprised many people because of the authority with which he spoke. He taught in the form of parables to fulfill what was prophesied: “I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old,” (Ps 78:2). In this way Jesus brought the light of his teachings about God’s love to those who walked in darkness.

Prayer: Lord, now we say as Jesus taught us: I praise You, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have shown to the simple the things that you hid from the wise and learned. Yes, Father, because that is your will. Amen.

COSAS QUE HAN ESTADO EN SECRETO
                                       SALMO 78: 1-5

¡Inclínate a escuchar lo que te digo!
                                                                                                      Salmo 78:1b

Thursday, October 3 GOOD NEWS LUKE 10:1-12

Thursday, October 3
GOOD NEWS
LUKE 10:1-12

Whatever house you enter, first say,
‘Peace to this house!’
Luke 10:5 (NRSV)
Despite the increasingly difficult situations facing humanity every day, the planet’s population continues to increase. In the same way, hopelessness and heartbreak continue to increase. The number seventy-two (those whom Jesus sent out) represented all the nations of the known world at that time. Thus, we are in the same position today facing the world where many families hope for our greeting of peace. It isn’t difficult for us Cubans to enter a conversation and drink a cup of coffee, or to share what we have at hand with a neighbor. Broadening the conversation, moved by the words of Jesus about comfort, love, forgiveness without limits and reconciliation could turn out to be the most effective healing for a troubled spirit.
These words never heard by our friends might awaken great curiosity in many and some doubt in others, but we can leave it to God to deal with those who are not yet ready to receive us. Let’s follow the instructions of the Master, announce to all the Kingdom of God, or the place we meet God’s good will, which is available to everyone.

Prayer: Lord, place in me the desire to go and tell all the world the words of eternal life, to those who do not know it. Amen.

LA BUENA NOTICIA
LUCAS 10:1-12

Cuando entren en una casa, saluden primero,
diciendo: “Paz a esta casa”
                                                                                                                                 Lucas 10:5

Wednesday, October 2 THE LORD LISTENS TO ALL WHO CALL ON HIM PSALM 86: 1-7

Wednesday, October 2
THE LORD LISTENS TO ALL WHO CALL ON HIM
PSALM 86: 1-7

Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
                                                                Psalm 86:1 (NRSV)
From the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez we know the expression, “A true friend is the one who takes our hand and touches our heart.” Thanks to our knowledge of Jesus Christ, we can experience God as our close friend. In a conversation with his disciples, Jesus said, “Who has seen me has seen the Father.” In his own person, he has shown us what God is like. Jesus took the hand of many needy people who clamored for mercy at his feet, attended to them, helped them, and thus touched their hearts. With this same love, Jesus, who is in God, listens when we call on him.
In John’s Gospel, Jesus prays to God that we all might be one, and he says to God, “The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one. . .” (17:22) With that assurance, we direct our prayers to God to forgive us and to change our lamentations into dancing.

Prayer: Lord, when we feel alone or sad, may our prayer be the perfect link by which we feel the greatness of your love and sense the assurance of your presence. Amen.

EL SEÑOR ESCUCHA A QUIENES LE INVOCAN
SALMO 86: 1-7

Señor, dígnate escucharme,
porque estoy muy triste y pobre…
                                                                Salmo 86:1

Tuesday, October 1 73rd Anniversary of the Evangelical Theological Seminary at Matanzas Day of the Elderly in Cuba SALVATION IS UNIVERSAL ZECHARIAH 8:20-23

Introduction
This is one more issue of our Su Voz devotional designed to be very useful for the daily meditations of our faith communities.

This specific quarter, covering the months of October to December 2019 has been submitted by the brothers and sisters of the Presbytery of Matanzas.

The lessons revealed in these reflections help us today to train ourselves as better Christians and to prepare ourselves more as every day we are confronted by situations which we must overcome.

Again, we must thank God for tremendous help in the preparation of our devotional, as well as the brothers and sisters of the Presbytery of Matanzas for their collaboration with God.

May God bless and accompany us
in this end of the year

SALVATION IS UNIVERSAL
ZECHARIAH 8:20-23

Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat the favor of the Lord.
Zechariah 8: 22 (NRSV)
Living without God entails improvising solutions that are not always successful. It means creating our path while we are walking it, stumbling at every moment, searching for happiness in the wrong place. It is lacking shelter in the storm. But God is patient, forgiving and merciful enough to receive all who seek him at any time and in any place. God receives all those who preferred to test their luck, even when they turn their backs to God. In his sovereign will, God touches the hearts of some and then uses them to proclaim his message to many more. In this way those who hear God’s voice and obey are bridges of good will so that all may attain the salvation announced by the prophet Zechariah.
Through their witness, many can have an encounter with God, and in this way,  salvation will have a universal reach. God is for everyone; he draws us together and helps us to follow him on the path blazed by his light.

Prayer: Lord, let me be an instrument to take the knowledge of your truth to others, to those seeking an encounter with you. Amen.
