Friday, July 19 THE FUTURE HAGGAI 2:18-19

Friday, July 19
THE FUTURE
HAGGAI 2:18-19
…or the vine, the fig tree, or the pomegranate—or has the olive tree not borne fruit?
From this day forward, I will bless you.
Haggai 2:19b (CEB)

The future is hidden from us.  Nevertheless, here we have a mirror in which we can look at the coming days.  The Lord says:  from this day forward, I will bless you.
It is worth noting the day which this promise refers to.  There had been a bad harvest and an east wind, all caused by the sinning of God’s people.  Now the Lord sees that these who had been punished were beginning to obey his Word, and to edify his temple, and for this he says:  Today…you have been placed as the foundations of my temple.  From this day forward, I will bless you.
If we have lived in any error, and the Spirit helps us overcome it, we can count on the blessing of the Lord.  God’s smile, God’s Spirit, God’s grace and broad revelation of his truth, all manifest to us as a multiplied blessing. Our faithfulness may cause us to be shunned by human beings, but we have a more intimate communion with the Lord our God, and a clearer view of our acceptance in Him.

Prayer: Lord, I am ready to be more faithful to you, and I beg you to multiply the blessing of my daily life. Amen.

EL FUTURO
HAGEO 2:18-19

Thursday, July 18 A GLAD PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING 1 THESSALONIANS 5: 16-18

Thursday, July 18
A GLAD PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
1 THESSALONIANS 5: 16-18
Be glad in the Lord always!  Again I say, be glad!
Philippians 4:4 (CEB)
How good it is that Thursday has come!  Do you know why Thursday is a special day in each week of my life?  It is the day when a group of brothers and sisters who belong to the Robert L. Wharton pastoral group meet in the indicated house to celebrate our gathering.  This ends up being a day of preparation so that later we can celebrate Sunday worship together.  And why do we love this time?  Every Thursday we embrace our common objectives: enjoy a time of worship, study the scriptures and share joys, worries and reflections from our life experiences.

And something very important that unites us is the ministry of prayer.  When we pray, we share not only our reasons for prayer, but also we concern ourselves about the situations of our neighbor and the most vulnerable, the people who are sick.  We also pray for our people, our context and the world in which we live.

Prayer keeps us in communion with God and encourages us to maintain a healthy life in communion with one another.  But prayer is essential to lead a life grateful for the blessings of God.  For that we invite you, here as we do in the pastoral group, to lift up our prayers of gratitude and not only of petition every day.  Every day I give thanks to God for this space of adoration and for God’s innumerable blessings.  Let us follow Paul’s advice:  Be glad in the Lord always!

Prayer: Beloved God, we praise you for your grace and your mercy.  Help us to remember that each space of communion that we enjoy we owe to you.  Allow us to always have an engaged answer and an eternal prayer of gratitude to you.  Amen.

UNA ORACIÓN ALEGRE AGRADECIDA
1 TESALONICENSES 5: 16-18
Alégrense siempre en el Señor, insisto, alégrense
Filipenses 4:4

Wednesday, July 17 AN OPEN HEART 1 PETER 3:13-18

Wednesday, July 17
AN OPEN HEART
1 PETER 3:13-18

Instead, regard Christ as holy in your hearts…
1 Peter 3:15 (CEB)

A great Christian woman had completed a week of conferences.  Through her written word and her personal testimony, God had done a great work.  Someone, commenting on what this woman had done, said: “It is not strange that God uses her as an instrument of blessing for those who listen to her.  It is because she loves God in a great way.  When God wants to give her a task, God does not have to knock at the door to her heart.  This heart is wide open.” This worker of the Lord has been consecrated fully and maintains a reverent attitude toward Christ, available to listen to his signs.

How do we respond to his great love?  All too often our heart has been inundated with selfish worries.  This means the doors of our soul do not open to the flow of God’s love.  This also makes us unsuited for a life of service.  Let’s go to Christ and let his grace purify us and free us of selfishness; only in this way will we enjoy his great blessings that now surround us.  Dedication to the service of Christ brings its own reward.

Prayer:  Lord, help us to respond dedicating ourselves to you and staying free of selfishness.  Amen.

 UN CORAZÓN ABIERTO
1 PEDRO 3:13-18

Tuesday, July 16 THE REAL TRUTHS 1 TIMOTHY 1:1-11

Tuesday, July 16
THE REAL TRUTHS
1 TIMOTHY 1:1-11

They want to be teachers of Law without understanding either what they are saying
or what they are talking about with such confidence.

1 Timothy 1:7 (CEB)

The Christian faith has immutable truths, but many times these truths are obscured by adding “our truths,” achieving a caricature of faith.
Those who teach and testify have to know the great responsibility that being witnesses of Jesus Christ implies.
We who teach and testify to Christ have an obligation to show the Christ of the Gospels and not a Christ according to our convenience.
Paul ordered certain people that were teaching false doctrines not to do it, and says of them that they teach without knowing what they teach.
Scrutinize the Scriptures and discover the living Christ who is in them; this is what must be preached and testified to in every moment.
Jesus has left us with the mission to preach his gospel, but let us do it with truth and coherence.

Prayer:  Lord, give me the wisdom to preach correctly, not with false doctrines.  May my ears not listen to those who don’t know what they preach.  Amen.

LAS VERDADES VERDADERAS
1 TIMOTEO  1:1-11

Monday, July 15 THANKFULNESS ABOVE ALL COLOSSIANS 3:17

Monday, July 15
THANKFULNESS ABOVE ALL
COLOSSIANS 3:17

Rooted and built up in him,
strengthened in faith as you were taught,
and overflowing with thankfulness.   (NIV)
Colossians 2:7

Thank you! Thank you very much!

How satisfying it is to deal with thankful people! Feeling gratitude from those whom we serve gives us satisfaction. The speed of modern life has made gratitude a forgotten thing. At times we neglect something so elemental, so important as gratitude.

Many years ago, the prayer of a little child of five happily surprised me.  At lunch hour in his house he prayed saying, “Thank you, my God, for granddad’s little cow that gave me milk today, for the clusters of mango and mandarin, and the little chicken my aunt gifted me.”

The older brother of the child made fun of his younger brother’s naivety, but the wise grandmother took advantage of the opportunity to give a lesson: “We should all learn to be thankful like Ismael.” There are many, uncountable and immeasurable favors that God provides us, always more than those we are able to express.

Thankful men and women should never forget giving thanks to God in and for everything. This gratitude must also be directed horizontally, expressing our respect and thanks to our neighbors.

With how much surprise and satisfaction the workers of the service sector regard us when we express our gratitude for their attention!

Let’s give thanks to God for everything, and our neighbor as well.

Prayer:  Lord, we give you thanks for all your blessings and all your love toward us. Amen.

AGRADECIMIENTO POR ENCIMA DE TODO
COLOSENSES 3:17

A veces descuidamos algo tan elemental, tan importante.

Sunday, July 14 TO BE FREE IN CHRIST GALATIANS 4:1-7

Sunday, July 14
TO BE FREE IN CHRIST
GALATIANS 4:1-7

 Because you are his sons,
God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts… (NIV)
Galatians 4:6a
In this exhortation by Paul to the Galatians the Apostle reminds us what the place of freedom should be in our faith lives.  From the past form of existence, characterized by enslavement, now God has made us free through Jesus his Son; now we enjoy the most perfect freedom.

But this also brings us to profoundly reflect upon the consequences of living free in God. Is it that we should conduct ourselves responsibly, rather than abusing the freedom God has given us through Jesus his son? In no way, to the contrary. As Paul himself cautions, God’s Spirit speaks to us from the depths of our hearts, and that would be enough to work with faith and love, in response to God’s grace toward us as a song well states.

To have the Spirit of God in our hearts today means to be free to proclaim the Gospel, far beyond whatever barrier that seeks to interpose. It means being sensitive enough not to be slaves of indolence, consumption, selfishness, hoarding, despair, violence, and many other constraints that limit the fullness of our life in Christ.
Let us respond positively and hopefully to the call of responsible freedom that God gives us.

Prayer:  Gracious God, make it so that we may always have hearts open to your will; to be truly free in you. Amen.

SER LIBRES EN CRISTO
GALATAS 4:1-7

Saturday, July 13 LET US WORK IN THE NANE OF CHRIST 2 CORINTHIANS 8:7-12

Saturday, July 13
LET US WORK IN THE NAME OF CHRIST
2 CORINTHIANS 8:7-12

I am not commanding you,
but I want to test the sincerity of your love
by comparing it with the earnestness of others.
2 Corinthians 8:8

The Corinthian Church had voluntarily proposed to take a collection to help the Christians of Jerusalem. As Paul had planned a visit to Corinth, he recommended that they have the offering ready by the time he arrived. Nevertheless, the Christians there delayed their donation until counting on greater resources. It’s for that reason that Paul assures them that if they contribute according to what they have, the gift will be acceptable before God.

Put at the Lord’s disposition, what we possess will be utilized by Him in a better way than we can imagine. Our good will of doing for Christ when our resources permit it is what God needs for the progress of his Kingdom.

On working in the name of Christ to the extent our means permit, we not only accrete what we have, but also collaborate so that God’s blessings descend upon others.

Prayer:  We pray to you, Lord, pleading that our lives may be spiritually enriched when we make good use of that which we possess. Amen.

TRABAJEMOS EN EL NOMBRE DE CRISTO
2 CORINTIOS 8:7-12
