GOD IS ON OUR SIDE

MATTHEW 10:26-33

So, don’t be afraid…(NIV)

Lose your job, lose your friends, lose money, lose your life…are some of your and my fears. Jesus always said that life isn’t too easy. He spoke clearly, but his intention wasn’t to intimidate. Therefore, he tells you and me: Don’t be afraid.

At times we become fearful Christians.  Jesus Christ says:  Don’t be afraid of human beings. It could, in the first place, be referring to ourselves. For example, recall the prophet Jeramiah, he lived through difficult times when everything in the Jewish community seemed to be falling apart. But then his Word in God’s name vigorously surged forth: Trust in the Lord and not in yourselves, because the Lord is like a mighty soldier who fights for the weak and oppressed. Don’t be afraid of others.

In the text we just finished reading, Jesus invites his disciples not to be afraid three times. Those words of his, that insistence that we lose our fear, haven’t in any way lost their validity. On the contrary, today there are many who live in fear, or at best camouflage it in a thousand ways so as not to confront the reality that, despite everything, it continues to be there, undermining our joys, security and trust.

Brothers and sisters, although the motives for feeling fear could be many and serious, the motive that we must trust will always be stronger. God is on our side.

Prayer:  We give thanks God, because you are victorious in everything, and in you we overcome our fears. Amen.

Así que, no temáis...

Perder el trabajo, perder los amigos, perder dinero, perder la vida… son algunos de tus miedos y los míos. Jesús siempre dijo que la vida no es cosa demasiado fácil. Él habló con claridad, pero su intención no era amedrentar. Por eso nos dice a ti y a mí: No tengan miedo. A veces nos convertimos en cristianos temerosos. Dice Jesucristo: No tengáis miedo los seres humanos. En primer lugar, ello puede referirse a nosotros mismos. Recordemos por ejemplo al profeta Jeremías. Él vivió en momentos difíciles, cuando todo en el pueblo judío parecía que se derrumbaba. Pero entonces surgió vigorosa su Palabra en nombre de Dios: no pongáis confianza en vosotros mismos, sino en el Señor.

Porque el Señor es como fuerte soldado que lucha con los débiles y oprimidos. No tengamos miedo de los otros. Por tres veces Jesús invita a los suyos, en el texto que acabamos de leer, a no tener miedo. Esas palabras suyas, esa insistencia en que perdamos el miedo, no han perdido en absoluto vigencia; al contrario, son muchos los que hoy en día viven sumidos en el miedo o en el mejor de los casos, lo camuflan de mil formas para no hacer frente a esa realidad que, a pesar de todo, sigue estando ahí, minando nuestras alegrías, nuestras seguridades, nuestras confianzas. Hermanos y hermanos, aunque sean muchos y muy serios los motivos que pudiéramos tener para sentir temor, siempre será más fuerte el motivo que tenemos para confiar. Dios está de nuestra parte.

Oración: Damos gracias Dios, porque con todo eres tú victoria, y en ti superamos nuestros miedos. Amén.
