AN EXEMPLARY ATTITUDE

RUTH 1:12-22

Now, our God, we give you thanks and praise your glorious name.

1 Chronicles 29:13 (NIV)

There are people who say they have faith, but when pushed to it they have hysterical reactions as if the world were no longer in God’s hands. They act violently, as if they had risked everything. But we believe in history; the world is not some chance thing headed toward chaos. We don’t have anything new. Time and again we have favorable and unfavorable situations in our lives. I think that Ruth had this very much in mind when she said to Naomi: Don’t urge me to leave you… Your people will be my people and your God my God.

Ruth’s spirit was deeply and truly simple. That’s why when Boaz interrupted his field work to speak to her, Ruth asked him: Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you notice me—a foreigner?

Ruth’s humility, her faithfulness, and her love of God inspire us, as they inspired Boaz. Ruth inspires us today, not only because of her virtues, but she was also an exemplary woman: faithful, a struggler, a worker, so much so that she is considered part of Jesus’ lineage.

Prayer: God, help us to remember that you always have mercy and compassion on those who worship you. Amen.

RUTH 1:12-22

Nosotros alabamos y loamos tu glorioso nombre

1 Crónicas 29:13

Hay personas que dicen tener fe, pero que en situaciones límites  tienen reacciones histéricas como si el mundo hubiese escapado de las manos de Dios. Por eso actúan violentamente, como si lo arriesgasen todo. Pero creemos en la historia; el mundo no es un azar que va hacia el caos. No tenemos nada nuevo. Una y otra vez se presentan situaciones favorables y desfavorables en nuestra vida. Creo que Ruth tenía muy en cuenta esto cuando le dijo a Noemí: No me ruegues que te deje… Tu pueblo será mi pueblo y tu Dios será mi Dios.

El espíritu de Ruth estaba marcado por una profunda y verdadera sencillez. Por eso cuando Booz interrumpió sus labores en el campo para hablarle, Ruth le preguntó: ¿Por qué he hallado gracia en tus ojos para que me reconozcas, siendo yo extranjera?

La humildad de Ruth, su fidelidad y su amor hacia Dios nos conmueve, como conmovieron a Booz. Ruth nos conmueve  hoy, no sólo por sus virtudes sino porque fue además, una mujer ejemplar: fiel, luchadora, trabajadora, de tal manera que fue tenida en cuenta como parte del linaje de Jesús.

Oración: Dios, ayúdanos a recordar que tú siempre tienes misericordia y compasión de quienes te reverencian. Amén.
