WALKING ON WATER
MATTHEW 14:23-33
Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him, saying,
“You man of weak faith!
Why did you begin to have doubts?”
Matthew
14:31 (CEB)
Surely
Peter had great faith to do what he did. He walked on the water like Jesus, but when
the wind began to blow fiercely, he was afraid and began to sink.
In
the same way we have faith, but in the long journey of life, when the tasks are
many, when doors are closed to us, when we feel powerless before the corruption
of the world, then our faith is lost. We doubt and we choose the easiest
path: we do not struggle. No.
This is not what God expects of us.
This is not the true life in Christ.
This
morning’s exhortation is that we walk together with Jesus, trusting in his
Word. Although at times we feel that we
are drowning, we don’t lose faith because we are certain that our God of love will
never permit us to reach the bottom of the sea.
Prayer: We pray, Father, for those persons who feel oppressed,
anxious, and distressed. In this time of
crisis, lack of hope, uncertainty and bad news, may we recognize you as the God
of hope and help us to share this assurance with all of our people. Amen.
