GOD IS WITH US

EPHESIANS 2:1-10

...And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him

In the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.

The lands of the Americas, especially the Caribbean islands, were victims for many years of the corsairs, or privateers. Private vessels, licensed to attack enemy shipping, attacked any vulnerable target on land or sea. The privateer knew that a government would back up his crimes, giving him a veneer of legitimacy.

Sadly, sometimes faith in Jesus Christ is presented as a privateer license. Christ is the one who solves problems, the magic protection against any problem, and opens the doors to eternal happiness. Nothing could be further from the truth. All of us have seen solid Christians who lost their whole family all at once or in a short period of time have been left totally alone. We have seen Christians who are inactive because of an irreparable physical ailment, or who have died terrible and painful deaths.

Christ alone offers a new approach to the old problems. Only he can overcome continuous times of testing. The problems and burdens are the same, but we are different. The difference is our faith. We don’t see Christ as a privateer license to avoid paying the price for living on this earth. The great promise of the risen Lord is not only eternal life, but his companionship and support whenever we need it. Let us trust him, and we will overcome our problems because God is with us.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord for the constant promise that we have in your Word that you will always be with us. Amen.

DIOS ESTÁ CON NOSOTROS

EFESIOS 2:1-10

sentar en los lugares celestiales con Cristo Jesús

Efesios 2:6

Las tierras de América, y en especial las islas del Caribe,  fueron víctimas por mucho tiempo de la acción destructora de los corsarios. Amparados por la llamada “Patente de corso”, estos marinos se hacían a la mar atacando en éste o en tierra todo lo vulnerable. El corsario sabía que detrás de él había una bandera y un gobierno que respaldaba todas sus actividades vandálicas,  dándole cierta tónica de legalidad.

Lamentablemente  a veces se presenta la fe en Jesucristo como una patente de corso. Cristo es el que resuelve problemas, la vacuna que nos inmuniza contra cualquier contingencia y que abre las puertas a una eterna felicidad. Nada más inexacto. Todos hemos visto a cristianos convencidos y de buen testimonio perder toda la familia de una sola vez o en un corto período de tiempo y quedarse completamente solos. Hemos visto a personas cristianas quedar imposibilitadas para una vida activa por una dolencia física irreparable, o morir de enfermedades terribles y dolorosas.

Cristo sólo ofrece una nueva disposición frente a los viejos problemas. Sólo da un espíritu de victoria frente a los continuos ataques de las pruebas. Los problemas y las cargas son las mismas, nosotros somos los diferentes. La diferencia marca la fe. No vengamos a buscar en Cristo una patente de corso para evitar pagar el precio de vivir sobre esta tierra. La gran promesa del resucitado no es sólo la vida eterna, sino también su compañía y apoyo en cualquier momento de nuestra existencia. Confiemos, saldremos victoriosos porque Dios está con nosotros.

Oración: Gracias Señor, por esa promesa constante, que tenemos en tu Palabra, de que siempre estarás con nosotros. Amén.
