YOUNG OR OLD, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE

ECCLESIASTES 12:1

Just like a deer that craves streams of water,

my whole being craves you, God.

Exploring the Bible, I found myself in the book of Ecclesiastes.  And when I saw the sketch for chapter 12, verse 1, I marveled that such a small book hidden between Proverbs and Song of Solomon contains a great, real truth. Many older people use as an excuse:  “I don’t have time to go to church because, when will I cook?”  The book of Ecclesiastes or the Preacher makes me reflect about this when it says very well:  Remember your Creator now that you are young… At first glance we can deduce that the perfect age to remember your Creator is youth; but upon further analysis this is not so.  The problem is that when we become adults we acquire inescapable responsibilities and commitments:  marriage, children, and then we feel that life is complicated.  In reality, we all have the same responsibility to respond to God and look for his presence in community.  It does not matter whether we are children, youth, adults, or seniors.  Let us offer love and understanding to these people who have drawn apart from the faith, so that they can find anew this spiritual peace that one can breathe inside the Lord’s house. 

Prayer: Lord, help us to follow Jesus’ command to preach the message to all the world, so that in this way the Church can be an example of congregational love.  Amen.

ECLESIASTÉS 12:1

Como ciervo sediento de un río, así, Dios mío, te busco a ti

Salmo 42:1

Escudriñando la Biblia me encontré con el libro de Eclesiastés. Y al ver el dibujo perteneciente al capítulo doce, verso uno,  me llamó la atención cómo siendo un libro tan pequeño y escondido entre Proverbios y Cantares, posee una verdad tan cierta como real. La experiencia propia puede demostrarnos que existen muchas personas mayores que dicen como excusa: “No tengo tiempo para ir a la Iglesia, porque: ¿en qué tiempo cocino?” El libro del Eclesiastés o El Predicador me hizo reflexionar sobre esto cuando dice muy bien: Acuérdate de tu Creador ahora que eres joven… A simple vista podemos deducir que la edad perfecta para acordarse de su Creador es la juventud; pero en cierto modo y si analizamos mejor, no es así. El problema es que ya en la entrada de la adultez se concretan compromisos y responsabilidades ineludibles: el matrimonio, los hijos; y entonces sentimos que la vida se complica. En realidad, todos tenemos la misma responsabilidad de responder al llamado de Dios y buscar su presencia en comunidad. Da lo mismo, si somos niños, jóvenes, adultos o ancianos. Brindemos pues amor y comprensión a estas personas que se han alejado de la fe,  para que ellas puedan encontrar nuevamente esa paz espiritual que se puede respirar en el interior de la casa de Dios.

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a hacer realidad el mandato de Jesús de predicar el mensaje a todo el mundo, para que de este modo la Iglesia sea un ejemplo de amor congregacional. Amén.
