MOUNTING A DEFENSE

I Peter 3:14-18

 

But the Lord of hosts, him you shall regard as holy . . .

Isaiah 8:13 (NRSV)

 

            In the midst of suffering for the faith, Peter exhorts us to sanctify God in our hearts.  What a task–if God is already holy in his essence!  But the recommendation of the letter is to remain in humility before God, for it is He who will exalt us. No one can harm us if we follow the good, and any slanders will fall by their own falsehood; we do not have to face them with violence.

 

            May God make us his church, in commitment and witness, a constant object of prayer, so that we may know how to give adequate witness to our faith to those who doubt, mock, or even attack us because of it. Peter urges us to be prepared to make our defense, meekly and in reverence, “to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you.” (1 Peter 3:15)

 

            Many still do not really know God, and it is we, through our behavior and testimony, who reveal a God who is often falsified. Let us sanctify the Lord in our hearts!

 

 

Prayer: Lord, in your goodness, empower your Church for the mission with which you have charged us to be your witnesses before this world. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PRESENTAR DEFENSA

I PEDRO 3:14-18

 

¡Al Señor de los ejércitos, a Él santificad!

Isaías 8:13

 

 

            Pedro exhorta a que, en medio de padecimientos por la fe, santifiquemos a Dios en nuestros corazones. ¡Tremenda tarea! ¡Si Dios es de por sí santo en su esencia! Pero la recomendación de la carta es la de permanecer en humildad ante Dios, pues Él será quien nos exalte. Nadie nos podrá hacer daño si nosotros seguimos el bien, y las calumnias caerán por su propia falsedad, no tenemos que enfrentarnos violentamente a ellas.

 

            Que Dios nos haga su iglesia, en compromiso y testimonio, ha de ser un motivo constante de oración, de modo que sepamos dar testimonio adecuado de nuestra fe a quienes dudan, se burlan, o incluso nos agreden a causa de ella. Pedro nos exhorta a que estemos preparados para presentar defensa con mansedumbre y reverencia ante todo el que demande razón de la esperanza que hay en nosotros (I Pe 3:15).

 

            Muchos siguen sin conocer en realidad de Dios, y somos nosotros, mediante nuestras conductas y testimonio, quienes revelamos a un Dios muchas veces falseado.  ¡Santifiquemos al Señor en nuestros corazones!

 

Oración: En tu bondad, Señor, capacita a tu iglesia para la misión que nos has encargado de ser tus testigos ante este mundo. En Jesús oramos. Amén.
