OUR PRAYERS NEED HANDS AND FEET

John 17:6-19

I pray for them…

John 17:9a

            The prayer of intercession and the exchange of thoughts have been challenged in these times of news and experiences that show so much injustice, violence, lack of dignity, so many people infected with Covid 19, and so much death. However, the pain and suffering call for prayers that lead to action.

            While Jesus was preparing to separate himself from his disciples, he prays for them because he loves them. The church today also experiences the power of prayer, not only when we pray for ourselves, but we’ve also seen the power of prayer when we pray for others. To pray is to desire a connection with something much larger than ourselves. It’s to recognize that you and I cannot confront the world alone. It’s to admit that we do not have all the answers, all the wisdom, all the grace, love and care that we need to get through this day, and much less tomorrow or the day after. To pray is not to convince God that he might do something for us. To pray is to change our hearts, surrender our hearts and being to God.

            Thus, as Jesus has prayed for us, we should pray as well. A wise pastor once told me that prayers need hands and feet. How do you believe prayer is related to the faithful action of disciples of Jesus in the world today?

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, do not allow us to lose the ability to wonder at your works, that our gratitude is manifested actions. Amen.

NUESTRAS ORACIONES NECESITAN MANOS Y PIES

Juan 17:6-19

Yo ruego por ellos…

Juan 17:9a

            La oración de intercesión y el intercambio de pensamientos han sido desafiados en estos tiempos de noticias y vivencias que muestran tanta injusticia, violencia, falta de dignidad, tantas personas contagiadas con Covid 19, tanta muerte. Sin embargo, el dolor y tanto sufrimiento reclaman oraciones que llevan a la acción.

            Mientras Jesús se preparaba para separarse de sus discípulos, ora por ellos porque les ama. La iglesia de hoy también experimenta el poder de la oración, no sólo cuando oramos por nosotros mismos, también hemos visto el poder de la oración cuando oramos por los demás. Orar es anhelar una conexión con algo más grande que nosotros mismos. Es reconocer que tú y yo no podemos enfrentarnos al mundo solos. Es admitir que no tenemos todas las respuestas, toda la sabiduría, toda la gracia, todo el amor, todo el cuidado que necesitamos para pasar este día, y mucho menos mañana, o el día siguiente. Orar no es convencer a Dios de que haga algo por nosotros. Orar es cambiar nuestros corazones, entregar a Dios nuestros corazones, nuestro ser.

            Así como Jesús ha orado por nosotros, así debemos orar. Un sabio pastor me dijo una vez que las oraciones necesitan manos y pies. ¿Cómo crees que la oración está relacionada con la acción fiel de los discípulos de Jesús en el mundo actual

 

Oración: Señor Jesús, permite que no perdamos la capacidad de asombro ante tus obras, que nuestra gratitud se manifieste en acciones. Amén.
