THE DESERT

Exodus 14:11

Therefore, I will now allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.

Hosea 2:14 (NRSV)

            A beautiful meditation for reflection:

            “The desert is that lonely and empty place, a place of silences and loneliness, a place of insatiable thirst and unbearable weakness. But while it may seem an undesirable and unwelcome place to be, it is where God brings out the best in us. It is where that insatiable thirst brings us even closer to God and we lift our cry, Give me something to drink!

            “It is not a coincience that the word desert is so common in the Holy Scriptures. And in fact we are reminded that it was there that for forty years that the people of Israel had to wander. That was the place where they learned to listen to and to depend only on God, where they knew for sure what a true miracle was, where they saw that their clothes and shoes did not wear out, and where without working they received bread from heaven every day, and water sprang from a rock to calm their thirst.

            “When God thought about desert, God thought of the perfect place for formation and for communion, a place where voices were silenced so that his could prevail. God did not make the desert to kill people of thirst, but on the contrary to quench it in such an extraordinary and sublime manner that whoever experiences it and drinks of this water will never be the same again.

            “Brother, that desert that you are passing through is not going to kill you. If you permit it, that desert is going to shape and guide you toward your true purpose. It is not a question of why this desert, but rather of what purpose is this desert. If you think about it, there couldn’t have been any other way to make you long so deeply to hear God’s voice, and like a powerful wave for it to penetrate your heart. Today I invite you to give thanks for that desert.”

 

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the deserts. Amen.

EL DESIERTO

Exodo 14:11

Y he aquí la atraeré y la llevaré al desierto y hablaré a su corazón

Oseas 2:14

            Bella meditación para reflexionar:

            “El desierto es aquel lugar solo y vacío, lugar de silencios y soledad, lugar de sed insaciable y debilidad insoportable. Pero aunque pareciera ser indeseable y un lugar no grato para estar, es donde Dios a y forja lo mejor que hay en nosotros. Donde esa sed insaciable nos acerca más a Él y nos lleva a clamar: ¡Dame de beber!

            No es casualidad que la palabra: desierto,  sea tan comúún en las Sagradas Escrituras. Y que de hecho nos recuerden que fue allí donde por 40 años el pueblo de Israel tuvo que vagar. Ese fue el lugar donde aprendieron a escuchar y a depender sólo de Dios, donde supieron con veracidad qué era un verdadero milagro, que era ver que sus vestidos y zapatos no envejecían, y sin trabajar recibir cada mañana pan del cielo, y agua que brotaba de una roca para calmar su sed.

            Cuando Dios pensó en desierto, pensó en el lugar perfecto de formación y de comunión, lugar donde voces se callan para que la suya prevalezca. Dios no hizo el desierto para matar a alguien de sed, sino por el contario, para saciarla de una forma tan extraordinaria y sublime, que quien lo experimente y beba de esa agua jamás volverá a ser el mismo.

            Hermano, ese desierto que estás atravesando no te va  a matar. Ese desierto, si lo permites, te va a formar y guiar hacia tu verdadero propósito. No se trata del ¿por qué? sino ¿para qué? de este desierto. Si lo piensas, no pudo ser de otra forma para que anhelaras escuchar  tanto a Dios, y como una potente ola su voz penetrara tu corazón. Hoy te invito a que des gracias por ese desierto.”
