OUR LOVE CONTINUES THE SAME

Mark 3:20-35

Whoever does God’s will is my brother, sister, and mother.

            Mark tells us that Jesus did not even have time to eat.  He was so busy with his ministry, so pressed by the crowds who followed him, so accused by the authorities who questioned his preaching, that he had no time for it. Now, returning to his birthplace, even his own family thinks Jesus is disturbed.

            Here is one of the passages in Mark that is the most cited and one of the least understood.  For centuries we have tried to categorize sins according to their seriousness, as if some were worse than others. But Jesus tells us that the only unforgiveable sin is to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. This means that it is unforgiveable to judge what is truly good, doing the will of God is what Jesus asks us to do.

            Jesus asserts that we form a family when we decide to follow him.  The family we are born into exists, but beyond is the family of the Church, which we also learn to love and value.

            Jesus was not as crazy as he seemed. Today his message continues being relevant when we recognize that living in communion makes the difference.

 

Prayer: Beloved Lord, show us when we should stop to think better about what we are going to say or do.  May we be people capable of choosing wisely to do your will in every moment. Amen.

NUESTRO AMOR SIGUE IGUAL

            Marcos nos dice que Jesús ni siquiera tenía tiempo para comer. Estaba tan ocupado con su ministerio, tan presionado por las multitudes que le seguían, tan acosado por las autoridades que cuestionaban su predicacióón, que no tenía tiempo para sí. Ahora, de vuelta en su ciudad natal, hasta su propia familia piensa que Jesús está perturbado.

            Aquí hay uno de los pasajes más citados de Marcos, y uno de los menos comprendidos. Por siglos hemos tratado de catalogar los pecados según su gravedad, como si algunos fueran peores que otros. Pero Jesús nos dice que lo único imperdonable es blasfemar contra el Espíritu Santo. Esto significa que es imperdonable juzgar lo que es verdaderamente bueno, hacer la voluntad de Dios es lo que Jesús nos pide que hagamos.

            Jesús asevera que formamos una familia cuando decidimos seguirle. Existe la familia en la que nacemos, pero además está la familia de la Iglesia, que también aprendemos a amar y valorar.

            Jesús no estaba tan loco como parecía. Hoy su mensaje continua siendo relevante cuando reconocemos que vivir en comunión hace la diferencia.

 

Oración: Amado Señor, indícanos cuándo debemos hacer una pausa para pensar mejor lo que vamos a decir o hacer. Que seamos personas capaces de elegir sabiamente, para hacer tu voluntad en todo momento. Amén.
