BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS

Mark 4:35-41

I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9 (NRSV)

            Who hasn’t felt fear at some point in his life? According to Scripture, the antidote to fear is courage, which is the ability and the will to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty or intimidation. Yes, life can be dangerous, because it means making decisions and confronting different challenges every day. Being strong and courageous means different things to different people.

            In today’s passage, the disciples were trapped in a storm on the Sea of Galilee. They were desperate, and their fear was clearly justified: their boat could be swamped in the sea, so they decided to wake Jesus and complain about his apparent calm.

            The text provides hope for us when we confront fearful experiences. It tells us that God is with us in the storms of life, and when we are called on to undertake some mission it reaffirms God’s promise: I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

 

Prayer: Lord, infuse our heart with courage and faith so that today we don’t give up in the face of difficulties. We know that you are at our side and that you won’t desert us in the trial. Help us to live with and for love, and to share it in our environment.

TEN  FUERZA Y VALENTIA

Marcos 4:35-41

Mira que te mando que te esfuerces y seas valiente; no temas ni desmayes, porque Jehová tu Dios estará contigo en dondequiera que vayas

Josué 1:9

            ¿Quién no ha sentido miedo alguna vez en su vida? Según las Escrituras, el antídoto contra el miedo es la valentía, que es la capacidad y la voluntad de enfrentar el miedo, el dolor, el peligro, la incertidumbre o la intimidación. Sí, vivir puede ser peligroso porque implica tomar decisiones y enfrentar diferentes desafíos cada día. Tener fuerza y valentía significa cosas diferentes para cada persona.

            En nuestro pasaje de hoy los discípulos se encontraban atrapados en una tormenta en el lago de Galilea. Estaban desesperados y su miedo estaba claramente justificado: la barca podía hundirse en el mar, así que decidieron despertar a Jesús y reclamarle por su aparente calma.

            El texto nos brinda esperanza cuando enfrentamos experiencia de miedo. Nos dice que Dios está con nosotros en medio de las tormentas de la vida; y cuando somos llamados a asumir alguna misión se nos reafirma la promesa de Dios: Mira que te mando que te esfuerces y seas valiente; no temas ni desmayes, porque Jehová tu Dios estará contigo en dondequiera que vayas.

 

Oración: Señor, infunde valentía y confianza en nuestro corazón para que en este día no nos rindamos ante las dificultades. Sabemos que estás a nuestro lado y que no nos dejarás solos en la prueba. Ayúdanos a vivir con y por amor, y para compartirlo en nuestro entorno. Amén.
