REFLECTING ON THE PSALMS

Psalm 133

Look at how good and pleasing it is when families live together as one!

Psalm 133:1(CEB)

            This is a beautiful poem in the Bible that praises brotherly love and communion. It had a special meaning for the people who were in exile, so it served as a link among all the members to highlight the good and the benefits that come with living in unity, but also describing how delicious and enjoyable it is when we are in harmony. The psalmist shows us the magnitude of this delight through two illustrations:

            - the anointing oil (a symbol of dignity, holiness, and joy, also a symbol of the Holy Spirit)

            - the rock of Hermon (refreshment, life, fertility, freshness)

            These examples reveal to us the fruit of abundance, prosperity, and happiness that we will enjoy if we live in unity and harmony, assuring us that there “God sends blessing and eternal life”. God invites us to discover the attractiveness of living in community, thus that will positively influence our life as much as the lives of those around us.  We can become a constant invitation to harmony and unity. If we have not reached it yet, let us work to gain it and live it.  God counts on us.

 

Prayer: Holy God, we recognize that many times we find ourselves in spiritual exile, and that division has taken over our lives; forgive us and allow us to enjoy the fullness of all your blessings of living in communion.  Amen.

REFLEXIONANDO EN LOS SALMOS

Salmo 133

Mirad cuan bueno y cuan delicioso es habitar los hermanos juntos y en armonía

Salmo 133:1

            Este es un bello poema de la Biblia que elogia el amor fraternal y la comunión. Tenía un sentido especial para el pueblo que se encontraba en la dispersión, pues servía de lazo entre todos los miembros al poner de relieve lo bueno y provechoso que es vivir en unidad, pero además añade lo delicioso y agradable que es cuando estamos en armonía.  El salmista nos muestra la magnitud de este deleite a través de dos ilustraciones:

            - El aceite de la unción (símbolo de dignidad, consagración y alegría, símbolo también del Espíritu Santo).

            - El rocío de Hermón (refrigerio, vida, fecundidad, frescura).

            Estos ejemplos nos revelan el fruto de la abundancia, prosperidad y felicidad que disfrutaremos si vivimos en unidad y armonía,  asegurándonos que allí “envía Dios bendición y vida eterna”. Dios nos invita a descubrir el atractivo de vivir en comunidad, pues eso influenciará  positivamente tanto nuestra vida como a nuestro alrededor. Podemos llegar a ser una constante invitación a la armonía y a la unidad. Si no lo hemos logrado aún, trabajemos en anhelarlo y vivirlo, Dios cuenta con nosotros.

 

Oración: Dios Santo, reconocemos que muchas veces nos encontramos en una diáspora espiritual, y que la división se ha apoderado de nuestras vidas; perdónanos y permite que podamos disfrutar a plenitud de todas tus bendiciones al  vivir en comunión. Amén.
