REFORM NEVER ENDS

Ephesians 2:4-10

… created in Christ Jesus to do good things.  God planned for these good things to be the way that we live our lives.

Ephesians 2:10 (CEB)

            The protestant church sees itself as a continuer of the covenant of the times of the Old and New Testaments.  What do we mean by “Reformed”?

            The reformers, men like Luther and Calvin, insisted that the church return to the teachings of the New Testament, and they refused to accept those doctrines of the Church which were not in agreement with the Bible. This meant that, under their guidance the Church came to be a Church of the people; a brotherhood or community of believers where ministers and lay people both have equal right and voice because Christ does not make distinctions. The Church became a place where love and divine forgiveness are gifts of God, never earned by our works.

            The Christian faith implies an act of faith and truth in God, and absolute dependence on God in response to God’s love for us.  We are the continuation of the Early Church. Thus we are part of the Reformation that never ends.

            Today let us be continuers of the work of the reformers like Luther and Calvin.

 

Prayer: Help us Lord, to be the Reformed Church, always being reformed.  Amen.

LA REFORMA NUNCA TERMINA

Efesios 2:4-10

Efesios 2:10

            La Iglesia protestante se considera continuadora del pacto de los tiempos del Antiguo y Nuevo Testamentos. ¿Qué queremos decir por “Reformada”?

            Los reformadores, hombres como Lutero y Calvino, insistieron para que la Iglesia retornara las enseñanzas del Nuevo Testamento, y también rehusaron aceptar aquellas doctrinas de la Iglesia que no estaban de acuerdo con la Biblia. Esto significó que, bajo su orientación, llegó a ser Iglesia del pueblo; una fraternidad o comunidad de creyentes donde ministros y laicos, ambos, tenían igual derecho y voz, porque Cristo no hace distinciones. Iglesia donde el amor y el perdón divinos son dádivas de Dios, nunca por nuestras obras.

            La fe cristiana implica un acto de fe y verdad en Dios, absoluta dependencia de Él en  respuesta a su amor por nosotros. Somos así continuación de la Iglesia Primitiva. Por tanto, somos parte de la Reforma que nunca termina.

            Seamos hoy los continuadores de la obra de reformadores como Lutero, Calvino.
