THE FORGOTTEN OF THIS WORLD

Luke 6:17, 20-26

... Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God. (NIV)

Luke 6:20

            These verses are known as the Beatitudes, a word derived from Latin meaning blessed. They describe what it means to be a follower of Christ. They came to be norms of conduct, a contrast with the values of the Kingdom with those of the world on showing what Christ’s followers can expect from the world and what God is going to give them. They contrast deceitful piety with true humility. 

           In his Gospel, Matthew adapts the Beatitudes to the church of his time; Luke, however, shows them just as Jesus proclaimed them to the people of Galilee, they were a call and a hope directed to the forgotten of this world. From then on, God wants to show his mercy, especially in blessing the poor and despised.

            But he also wants to commission them with his gospel and make of them the first cooperators of his work in the world. Although the great and the rich have their own part in the world, the poor are those who give the most indispensable contribution for the construction of the Kingdom.

            Brothers and sisters, let us help the continuing construction of the Kingdom of God here on earth.

 

Prayer: Beloved Father, help us to be your disciples in the construction of your Kingdom. Amen.

LOS OLVIDADOS DE ESTE MUNDO

Lucas 6:17, 20-26

... Felices los pobres, porque de ustedes es el Reino de Dios

Lucas 6:20

            Estos versículos se conocen como las bienaventuranzas, palabra derivada del latín que significa bendecido. Describen lo que significa ser un seguidor de Cristo. Vienen a ser normas de conducta, contrastan los valores del Reino con los del mundo, al mostrar lo que los seguidores de Cristo pueden esperar del mundo y lo que Dios va a darles. Contrastan la piedad engañosa con la verdadera humildad.

            Mateo en su evangelio adapta las bienaventuranzas a la iglesia de su tiempo;  Lucas, en cambio, las muestra tal y como Jesús las proclamó al pueblo de Galilea, fueron un llamado y una esperanza dirigidos a los olvidados de este mundo. Dios quiere en adelante mostrar su misericordia, especialmente en colmar  de bendición  a los pobres y despreciados.

            Pero también quiere encargarles su Evangelio y hacer de ellos los primeros cooperadores de su obra en el mundo. Si bien los grandes, los ricos, tienen su parte propia en el mundo, los pobres son los que dan el aporte más indispensable para la construcción del Reino.

            Ayudemos hermanas y hermanos, a  la continua construcción del Reino de Dios aquí en la tierra

 

Oración: Padre amado, ayúdanos a ser discípulos tuyos en la construcción de tu Reino. Amén.
