A DIFFERENT KIND OF TATTOO

Jeremiah 31:31-34

...says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts;

Jeremiah 31:33b (NRSV)

            These days tattooing has become a kind of “industry.” Even though it has become fashionable, the tattoo has many detractors. But there is a different, necessary tattoo. Think of one that is not visible on the exterior, yet nonetheless people can admire without knowing exactly what its design is. This precious tattoo is one which does no harm to the skin, which doesn’t deteriorate with the passage of time but rather which maintains its original quality, and even becomes better over the years.

            We’re talking of an internal tattoo which doesn’t have anything to do with fashion; what we’re talking about is God himself who “draws” on our heart by placing his Law there. The prophet Jeremiah affirms that God had promised to design a New Pact not based on written laws, but rather in this one God declares to the people, “I will place my law in your heart.”

            Having this tattoo is a treasure, not only for the person, but much more for the good it produces for those around. This tattoo is what allows us to give full witness of God in our lives, thus allowing effective evangelism.

 

Prayer: Lord, we want to be tattooed by you and achieve the calling to which we have been called, to a life of discipleship as followers of Jesus Christ to show a love which embraces our neighbor as a sign our our adherence to your will. Amen.

Un tatuaje dIFERENTE

Jeremías 31:31-34

   ...pondré mi Ley en su mente y la escribiré en su corazón

            El tatuaje se ha convertido hoy en día en una "industria". Aunque se haya puesto de moda, todavía el tatuaje cuenta con muchos detractores. Pero hay un tatuaje necesario, diferente. Pensemos en uno que no es visible exteriormente y que no obstante la gente puede admirar sin saber exactamente cuál es su diseño. Este valioso tatuaje es uno que no hace daño a la piel, que no se deteriora con el tiempo sino que puede mantener su calidad original, o incluso, tornarse mejor con el pasar de los años.

            Hablamos de un tatuaje interno que no tiene que ver con nada de lo que hoy se estila; este del que hablamos es Dios mismo quien lo "dibuja" en nuestro corazón para poner en él su Ley. El profeta Jeremías afirma que Dios habíía prometido concretar un Nuevo Pacto, uno no basado en leyes escritas, sino que en este el mismo Dios declara al pueblo “……pondré mi ley en su corazón”.

            Tener este tatuaje es un tesoro, no solo en lo personal sino mucho más en el bien que produce para quienes nos rodean. Este tatuaje es el que nos permite dar un cabal testimonio de la acción de Dios en nuestras vidas, permitiendo así una efectiva evangelización.

 

Oración: Queremos ser tatuados por ti, Señor, y alcanzar la vocación a la que hemos sido llamados, a una vida de discipulado como seguidores de Jesucristo para mostrar un amor que abraza al prójimo en señal de nuestra adhesión a tu voluntad. Amén.
