ATTITUDES FOR HAPPINESS (1)

Proverbs 3: 1-13

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:3 (NRSV)

            We will begin a series of reflections taken from a now deceased American televangelist, based on the Beatitudes. These are considered by many moral and religious thinkers to be a reference to the precepts of other religions.

            We can analyze several types of poverty, such as occupational, where we can’t find a job that matches our ability; or intellectual, which is related to lack of knowledge to fill a tiny part of the information necessary to navigate in the modern world. Overall, we have emotional poverty, in failing to recognize that in doing it alone, that we need help. Many mental infirmities hang on the perception that “no one can help me,” especially egotism which leads to arrogance and impiety which are always destructive.

            It was not for nothing that Jesus led with this fundamental indication to lead into the other Beatitudes, for this one has to do with humility; we cannot faithfully follow Jesus if we do not first humble ourselves, lest it negate recognizing the necessity of His Help, Wisdom, Love, Pardon, Direction, and Peace.

 

Prayer: Father, we ask that you always give us humility in order to enjoy the happiness of your perennial and hopeful accompaniment with us and toward others. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

ACTITUDES PARA SER FELIZ (1)

Proverbios 3: 1-13

Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu, porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos

Mateo 5:3

            Comenzaremos una serie de reflexiones tomadas de un teleevangelista norteamericano ya fallecido, basadas en las Bienaventuranzas. Estas son consideradas por muchos pensadores morales y religiosos como referente en preceptos de otras religiones.

            Podemos analizar algunos tipos de pobreza, como la ocupacional, cuando no podemos ocupar un trabajo acorde con nuestra capacidad; o la intelectual, aquella relacionada con escaso conocimiento para llenar en parte ínfima el vacío de información que es necesario en el mundo moderno. Tenemos sobre todo la pobreza emocional, al reconocer que no podemos solos, que necesitamos ayuda; muchas enfermedades mentales tienen que ver con que la percepción de que "nadie me puede ayudar"; incluso el egocentrismo nos lleva a la arrogancia e impiedad siempre destructiva.

            No por gusto Jesús empezó con esta indicación fundamental para abrir las demás bienaventuranzas, pues éésta tiene que ver con la humildad, no podemos seguir fielmente a Jesús si antes no nos humillamos, el negarse a sí mismo reconociendo la necesidad de Su Ayuda, Sabiduria, Amor, Perdón, Dirección, y Paz.

 

Oración: Padre, te rogamos que siempre nos des humildad para disfrutar de la felicidad de tu acompañamiento perenne y esperanzador con nosotros y hacia otros. En el nombre de Jesucristo. Amén.
