ATTITUDES FOR HAPPINESS (2)

James 5:5-11

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Matthew 5:4 (NRSV)

            In the famous encyclopedia THE TREASURE OF YOUTH we find a section called “The Book of Why;” when negative events happen we so often ask “Why?” God doesn’t respond to those whys but asks the right question: “What happens when bad things happen to good people?” We can see that such people become better because they do not harbor feelings of revenge, hatred, envy, resentment, etc., since by the key humility of the first beatitude, they are comforted, consoled, and can grow spiritually.

            Have you noticed the two pieces of the cross? The horizontal piece can represent interpersonal relations, individual or collective, which are energized by the vertical which represents our relation with god. All of the negative is converted into positive, even the cross itself, because only in God is the glorious purpose of the future revealed in its time. Let’s read the book of Job. Let’s never look at what we have lost but only at what lies ahead.

            How does God comfort us? With at least five actions: he gives us courage, a sense of calm or peace, accompaniment, compassion, and a sense of commitment to service.

 

Prayer: God of all consolation, thank you for your Word which leads us to not worry over the negative situations of life. May we convert them, with the guidance of Your Spirit into positives for your glory and honor. For your Son, Amen.

ACTITUDES PARA SER FELIZ (2)

Santiago 5:5-11

Bienaventurados los que lloran, porque recibirán consolación

Mateo 5:4

            En la famosa enciclopedia EL TESORO DE LA JUVENTUD se encontraba una sección llamada “El libro de los por qué”; cuando nos ocurren eventos negativos casi siempre preguntamos ¿por qué? Dios no responde esos por qué, para que nos hagamos la pregunta correcta: ¿qué ocurre cuando a las personas buenas le suceden cosas malas? Podemos ver que se vuelven mejores porque no albergan sentimientos de venganza, odio, envidia, rencor, etc, ya que, desde la humildad clave de la primera bienaventuranza, son confortados, consolados, y pueden crecer espiritualmente.

            ¿Se han fijado en los dos trazos que tiene la cruz? El trazo horizontal puede representar las relaciones interpersonales individuales o colectivas que se dinamizan con el trazo vertical que representa nuestra relación con Dios. Todo lo negativo se convierte en positivo, ¡incluso la cruz misma! porque sólo en Dios el propósito glorioso del futuro se revela a su tiempo. Leamos el libro de Job. Nunca miremos lo que hemos perdido, sino lo que nos queda por delante.

            ¿Cómo Dios nos conforta? Al menos con cinco acciones: nos da coraje, sentido de calma o paz, acompaña, da compasión, y sentido de compromiso en el servicio. Estemos atentos a la voz de Dios que nos orienta en cómo compartir la fe, la esperanza y el amor.

 

Oración: Dios de toda consolación, gracias por tu Palabra que nos guía a no preocuparnos por las situaciones negativas de la vida. Haz que con la dirección de Tu Espíritu las convirtamos en positivas para tu gloria y honra. Por tu hijo, amén.
