HOW TO STUDY THE BIBLE?

Deuteronomy 30:10

This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate on it day and night . . .

            Why study the Bible?

            Sometimes the word “study” is a bit frightening: the task, the projects, the group work, the exams, topics to read understand and remember. Bible study is different from what we do in school. It is not only learning a certain amount of data and information. It tries to incorporate into our lives the wisdom and teachings of God who wants to teach us to lead a full life.

            Here are a few ideas that can help us to study the Bible successfully:

* Time. Each day let’s set aside the same time to read the Bible. We might establish twenty minutes in the afternoon or at night before we go to bed. Let’s try to find a place where there are no distractions.

* Material. Let’s use a version of the Bible that helps us to better understand the text. Also, it can be useful to keep a notebook and pen to take notes while we read.

* Organization. Let’s decide with which book of the Bible we will begin our study. Let’s seek its context and literary genre in order to capture its emphasis. Having a plan will better help us to understand each biblical passage and to progress in our study.

            Setting apart a daily time, having the material at hand and being organized are the first steps in studying the Bible and understanding all that God wants to teach us.

¿COMO ESTUDIAR LA BIBLIA?

            ¿Por qué estudiar la Biblia?

            A veces la  palabra “estudiar”, asusta un poco. La tarea, los proyectos, los trabajos grupales, los exámenes, temas para  leer, comprender y recordar. El estudio de la Biblia es diferente del que realizamos para la escuela. No es solo aprender cierta cantidad de datos e información. Se trata de incorporar a nuestra vida los consejos y las instrucciones de Dios, quien desea enseñarnos a vivir una vida plena.

            Estas pueden ser algunas ideas que nos ayudarán a estudiar la Biblia con éxito:

* Tiempo. Cada día separemos el mismo horario para leer la Biblia. Podemos establecer veinte minutos en la tarde o en la noche, antes de acostarnos. Intentemos encontrar un lugar en el que no haya distracciones.

* Material. Utilicemos una versión de la Biblia que nos ayude a comprender mejor el texto. También puede ser útil tener un cuaderno y un bolígrafo para tomar notas durante la lectura.

* Organización. Decidamos qué libro de la Biblia comenzaremos a estudiar. Busquemos su contexto y género literario para captar sus énfasis. Tener un plan nos ayudará a entender mejor cada pasaje bíblico y así progresar en el estudio. Apartar un tiempo diario, tener el material disponible y organizarnos, son los primeros pasos para estudiar la Biblia y conocer todo lo que Dios desea enseñarnos. ¡Preparémonos para la aventura!
