Easter Sunday

OUR LORD IS RISEN!

John  20:1-9

...and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.

John 20:1 (NRSV)

            The text begins with this phrase: The first day of the week. The resurrection distinguishes Christianity from all other religious. To commemorate and celebrate this event, Christians meet every Sunday, the first day of the week, with the aim of worshiping their risen Lord. The grave cloth was neither wrinkled nor untidy, but retained the shape it had when the body was wrapped in it. It looked as if the body had simply slipped out and left.

            As a major proof that the disciples had not invented this story, we see that Peter and John were surprised that Jesus was not in the tomb. When John saw the empty cloths, he believed that the Lord had risen. It wasn’t until they saw the empty tomb that they remembered what the Scriptures and Jesus had said: he would die, but he would also be raised!

            The resurrection of Jesus is the key to the Christian faith. 1) Just as he said, he rose from the dead. Therefore, we can be sure that he will fulfill all that he promised. 2) The bodily resurrection of Jesus shows that the living Christ is neither a false prophet nor an imposter, but is the ruler of God’s eternal Realm. 3) We can be certain of our resurrection because He rose. Death is not the end; there is a future life. 4) The divine power that brought Jesus back to life is now within our reach to bring our spiritual death to life. 5) The resurrection is the basis of the Church’s testimony to the world.

 

Prayer: Lord, don’t let us drift away from you; allow us to enjoy your salvation, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Domingo de Resurrección

¡NUESTRO SEÑOR RESUCITÓ!

Juan  20:1-9

...y vio quitada la piedra que tapaba la entrada.

            El texto comienza con esta frase: El primer día de la semana.  La resurrección distingue al cristianismo de todas las demás religiones. Para conmemorar y celebrar este acontecimiento, los cristianos se reúnen el domingo, primer día de la semana, con el fin de adorar a su Señor resucitado. El lienzo no estaba ni arrugado ni desarreglado, sino que conservaba la forma que tenía cuando con él se envolvió el cuerpo. Parecía que el cuerpo simplemente se había deslizado, saliéndose de él.

            Como prueba mayor de que los discípulos no inventaron esta historia, vemos que Pedro y Juan se sorprendieron de que Jesús no estuviera en la tumba. Cuando Juan vio los lienzos vacíos, creyó que el Señor había resucitado. No fue sino hasta que vieron la tumba vacía que recordaron lo que las Escrituras y Jesús habían dicho: ¡moriría, pero también resucitaría!

            La resurrección de Jesús es la clave de la fe cristiana. 1) Tal como lo dijo, se levantó de la muerte. Por lo tanto, podemos tener la seguridad de que cumplirá todo lo prometido. 2) La resurrección corporal de Jesús muestra que el Cristo viviente no es un falso profeta ni un impostor, es el soberano del Reino eterno de Dios. 3) Podemos estar seguros de nuestra resurrección porque Él resucitó. La muerte no es el final: hay una vida futura. 4) El poder divino que devolvió a la vida a Jesús está ahora al alcance para dar vida a nuestra muerte espiritual. 5) La resurrección es la base del testimonio de la Iglesia al mundo.

 

Oración: Señor no permitas que nos alejemos de ti, permite que podamos gozar de tu salvación, en el nombre de Jesús. Amén.
