REAL COMMITMENT

Romans  12:11

O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.

1 Chronicles 29:18 (NRSV)

            Years ago, when someone promised something; they fulfilled it, and there was no need to resort to contracts or signed papers that promised what he had said. Losing honor meant suffering mistrust and shame. But in these days, commitments may be so fragile that they need a mountain of regulations and clauses to assure the fulfillment of the agreement. Yet even so, many of them fall apart in the same way they started. 

            The followers of Jesus must strive to live as committed people, and that is why we try to do what we say and get involved in the different realities of society. We try to live as people who are responsible and willing to serve.

            God wants us to learn to overcome mediocrity, that attitude that only does what is absolutely necessary and never strives to overcome weaknesses, temptations and sins. He wants us to give our life completely to Him, leaving nothing aside. May we be believers commited to his passion, dedication and love.

            After all, what our Creator asks of us is the same thing that Jesus did for us by dying on the cross. Our Creator is a God who loves us, draws near to us, offers us his forgiveness and commits himself to the reality of our life.

 

Prayer: Lord, renew my commitment to you. Don’t let me break my promise to follow you always. Amen.

VERDADERO COMPROMISO

Romanos  12:11

Jehová, Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, nuestros padres, conserva perpetuamente esta voluntad del corazón de tu pueblo, y encamina su corazón a ti.

1 Crónicas 29:18

            Años atrás, cuando alguien prometía algo, lo cumplía; y no era necesario recurrir a contratos o papeles firmados que aseguraran lo que se había dicho. Perder el honor significaba sufrir la desconfianza y la vergüenza. Pero hoy en día los compromisos  suelen ser tan frágiles que se necesitan un montón de reglas y cláusulas para asegurar el cumplimiento de lo pactado. Y aun así, varios de ellos se deshacen de la misma manera en que comenzaron.

            Los seguidores de Jesús debemos esforzarnos por vivir como personas comprometidas, y por eso intentamos hacer lo que decimos e involucrarnos en las distintas realidades  de la sociedad. Tratamos de  vivir como gente responsable  y dispuesta a servir.

            Dios desea que aprendamos a vencer la mediocridad, esa actitud que sólo hace lo indispensable y jamás se esfuerza por superar las debilidades, tentaciones y pecados; quiere que le entreguemos nuestra vida por completo a Él, sin dejar nada de lado. Que seamos creyentes comprometidos por su pasión, entrega y amor.

            Al fin y al cabo, lo que nuestro Creador nos pide es lo mismo que Jesús hizo por nosotros al morir en la cruz. Él es un Dios que nos ama, se nos acerca, nos ofrece su perdón y se compromete con nuestra realidad de vida.

 

Oración: Renueva mi compromiso contigo Señor. No permitas que falte a mi palabra de seguirte siempre. Amén.
