SHIELD

Genesis 15:1

my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior. . . .

2 Samuel 22:3 (NRSV)

            In ancient times, warriors had neither the arms nor the technology that are used in contemporary warfare. They could only count on a few things that they used either to attack their enemy or to defend themselves.

            One of the most important defensive armaments was the shield. Some were made of wood, others of metals that were more resistant to strikes. For certain, the soldier knew that if he had a shield, he could save himself from being run through by an enemy’s sword.

            Life appears to be a battle that we must fight in order to obtain victory. The enemies appear in different forms: fears, doubts, temptations, tests, and many more. There will be feelings that will try to fill our lives with negative ideas and make us lose sight of what God wants for us.

            For that reason, we must always carry the shield of faith. In other words, we must trust God who will be at our side to defend us and give us the needed abilities to overcome. Let us occupy our mind with what the Bible says and never lack a word of faith to protect our hearts against all sorts of attack.

 

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank you that at all times you are my protective shield. Amen.

ESCUDO

Genesis 15:1

Dios mío, fortaleza mía, en él confiaré, mi escudo, y el fuerte de mi salvación, mi alto refugio; salvador mío...

2 Samuel 22:3

            En la antigüedad, los guerreros no tenían las armas ni la tecnología que se usan en las batallas de nuestros días. Solo contaban con algunos elementos que les servían para atacar al enemigo y defenderse de ellos.

            Una de las armas de defensa más importantes era el escudo. Algunos estaban hechos de madera, otros de metales más resistentes a los golpes. Lo cierto es que el soldado sabía que si tenía un escudo podría salvarse de morir atravesado por la espada enemiga.

            La vida se parece a una batalla que debemos librar para lograr la victoria. Los enemigos se presentarán de diferentes formas: miedos, dudas, tentaciones, pruebas, y muchas más. Serán sentimientos que querrán llenar nuestras vidas de ideas negativas y hacer que perdamos de vista lo que Dios desea para nosotros.

            Por eso en todo momento debemos llevar puesto el escudo de la fe. En otras palabras, confiar siempre en Dios, quien estará a nuestro lado para defendernos y darnos las fuerzas necesarias para vencer. Ocupemos nuestra mente con lo que dice la Biblia y nunca nos faltará una palabra de fe que protegerá nuestro corazón ante cualquier clase de ataque.

 

Oración: Gracias mi Señor Jesús, porque en todo tiempo, eres mi escudo protector. Amén.
