Anniversary of the UNMIPRC

AND WILL GOD NOT DO JUSTICE?

Luke 18:1-8

And will God not bring about justice for his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?  (NIV)

            There are many examples in the Bible of courageous women who fought against all injustice, although in some cases their names do not appear. But in sacred history their actions are collected so that we will always remember them. In this case, we do not know if the widow existed or if it was only Jesus’ reference to illustrate about the Kingdom he was inaugurating in his parable.

            In addition to prayer–as the text insists that we notice–I want to highlight the persistence of this woman who is not satisfied with her grievance, who does not take revenge for herself, who insists on going through the established channels to achieve a just outcome for her cause. By doing so, she  exposes the power structures and those who represent them, so much so that the judge has no other option other than to do justice.

            Many times, it may be that we have been victims of injustice. This widowed woman tells us we cannot rest, that our voice must be heard and to take advantage of the already extant channels to, along with our dignified, prayerful, and faith-based attitude, enable understanding, restitution, respect and justice. At the same time, let us recognize that we have often been victimizers. Let us look at this judge as if he were a mirror in front of us and do not believe we are gods, rather, let us listen to God in the voices of the people whom we constantly make invisible with our arrogant and predominent behavior. Let us elucidate and defend God’s justice, not ours.

 

Prayer: My good God, may we always trust and hope in your justice. Help us to value our rights with tenacity and respect. Amen.

¿Y ACASO DIOS NO HARÁ JUSTICIA?

Lucas 18:1-8

¿Y acaso Dios nos hará justicia a sus escogidos, que claman a él día y noche? ¿Se tardará en responderles?

Lucas 18:7

            En la Biblia hay muchos ejemplos de mujeres valientes que lucharon en contra de toda injusticia. Aunque, en algunos casos, no aparecen sus nombres, la historia sagrada sí recogió sus acciones para que siempre tengamos memoria de ellas. En este caso no sabemos si la viuda existió o fue solo una referencia de Jesús para ilustrar con su parábola acerca del Reino que él inauguraba. Además de la oración, como se empeña en hacernos notar el texto, quiero resaltar la persistencia de esta mujer, que no se conforma con su agravio, que no toma venganza por sí misma, que insiste en ir por los canales establecidos para lograr un desenlace justo de su causa. De esta manera, ella pone en evidencia a las estructuras de poder y quienes le representan. Tal es así que el juez no tiene otra salida que hacer justicia.

            Quizás muchas veces hemos sido víctimas de la injusticia, esta mujer viuda nos dice que no nos podemos cansar, que debemos dejar oír nuestra voz y aprovechar los canales que ya están establecidos para junto con nuestra actitud digna, orante y de fe, posibilitar comprensión, restitución, respeto y justicia. Al mismo tiempo reconozcamos que muchas veces hemos sido victimarios, miremos a este juez como si fuera un espejo delante de nosotros y no nos creamos dioses, más bien escuchemos a Dios en las voces de las personas a las que invisibilizamos constantemente con nuestro comportamiento arrogante y prepotente. Dilucidemos y defendamos la justicia de Dios, no la nuestra.

 

Oración: Dios bueno, permite que siempre confiemos y esperemos en tu justicia. Ayúdanos a hacer valer nuestros derechos con tenacidad y respeto. Amén.
