THE WORD OF GOD IS LIFE

JOHN 8: 51-59

Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.

John 8:51 NIV

Throughout human history, death has been for many people the end point of life. That is why even talking about it in many cases could be chilling. However, we could think that Jesus uses it in this passage to make the offer to keep his Word very interesting.

What are the implications for our lives today of keeping the Word of Jesus? This is a question we should constantly ask ourselves so that our lifestyle can be in accordance with its teachings. It is  no use for us to know the Bible by heart and to revere it if, when it comes to acting, our attitudes do not project the image of God. Our life grows and expands when we are able to be part of other people’s experiences. The Word of God teaches us to be in solidarity with those who are lonely, sick, sad, hopeless, marginalized, and invites us to be bridges of love and reconciliation. May God grant that we do not lose the opportunity to show the true meaning and value of life.

 

Prayer: God of life, may I keep your Word and put it into practice every day to collaborate in the construction of a more just and humane society. Amen.

LA PALABRA DE DIOS ES VIDA.

Juan 8: 51-59

En verdad, en verdad os digo: si alguno guarda mi Palabra, no verá la muerte jamás.

La muerte ha sido para muchas personas, a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad, el punto final de la vida. Es por eso que hasta hablar de ella en muchos casos pudiera ser escalofriante. Sin embargo pudiéramos pensar que Jesús la utiliza en este pasaje para hacer bien interesante la oferta de guardar su Palabra.

¿Qué implicaciones tiene hoy para nuestras vidas guardar la Palabra de Jesús? Es una pregunta que nos deberíamos hacer constantemente para que nuestro estilo de vida pueda ser acorde a sus enseñanzas. De nada nos vale conocer la Biblia de memoria y reverenciarla si, a la hora de actuar, nuestras actitudes no proyectan la imagen de Dios. Nuestra vida crece y se expande cuando somos capaces de formar parte de las experiencias de otras personas. La Palabra de Dios nos enseña a solidarizarnos con quienes se encuentran en: soledad, enfermedad, tristeza, desesperanza, marginación; y nos invita a ser puentes de amor y reconciliación. Quiera Dios que no perdamos la oportunidad de mostrar el verdadero sentido y valor de la vida.

 

Oración: Dios de la vida, permite que pueda guardar tu Palabra y ponerla en práctica todos los días para colaborar en la construcción de una sociedad más justa y humana. Amén.
