The Father’s Embrace

Luke 15:11-32

So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him.

Once, when I was a teenager, due to things typical of that age, I drifted away from the church and then felt unable to return. I was ashamed of the decisions I had made. After some time, I returned and was welcomed in a way that was completely different from what I had expected. I still remember that the first thing they said to me was, “We’re so glad you’re here,” and they gave me a hug.

That experience completely changed my perspective on God and how His love is visible to our eyes.

God runs toward us and accepts us even when we doubt our worth; His forgiveness is not negotiable, and like a loving father and a caring mother, He offers it to us with joy. As in the parable, our God does not wait for us; he runs to meet us and, with an embrace, restores our lives and confidence.

Prayer: God, thank you for your love that welcomes us with tenderness. Teach us to run toward others with the same mercy with which you reach out and embrace us. Amen.

El abrazo del Padre

Lucas 15:11-32

"Así que se puso en camino y regresó a la casa de su padre. Cuando todavía estaba lejos, su padre lo vio y sintió compasión de él. Corrió a su encuentro, y lo recibió con abrazos y besos"

En una ocasión cuando era adolescente, por cosas de la edad, me alejé de la iglesia y luego me sentía incapaz de regresar, me avergonzaba de las decisiones que había tomado; luego de algún tiempo regresé y me recibieron de una forma completamente diferente a la que yo esperada. Aún recuerdo que lo primero que me dijeron fue  "Que bueno que estás aquí" y me brindaron un abrazo, esa experiencia cambió completamente mi perspectiva acerca de Dios y de cómo su amor se hace visible ante nuestros ojos.Dios corre hacia nosotros y nos acepta incluso cuando dudamos de nuestro valor; su perdón no se negocia, y al igual que un padre amoroso y una madre preocupada, nos lo ofrece con gozo. Al igual que en la parábola, nuestro Dios no se queda esperando, el corre a nuestro encuentro y con un abrazo restaura nuestras vidas y confianza.

Oración: Dios, gracias por tu amor que nos recibe con ternura. Enséñanos a correr hacia los demás con la misma misericordia con que tú nos alcanzas y abrazas. Amén.
