THE IDENTITY OF THE MESSIAH

John 7:1-2, 10:25-30

¿From where does the Messiah come?

John 10:27 (NRSV)

This passage is filled with tension between Jesus’ identity and the Jewish people’s expectations regarding the expected Messiah. The question of where the Messiah comes from forces us to reflect on our own expectations regarding God and his revelation to us.  Often, we expect God to act in ways that fit our ideas. However, Jesus challenges these expectations by presenting himself as the Son of God, who comes not only from a physical place, but with a divine mission that transcends human limitations.

During this season of Lent, we’re reminded that true understanding of Jesus requires an openness of heart and mind. We mustn’t limit ourselves to what we see or know, but be willing to recognize him in the unexpected. Let us stop looking beyond what we see; sometimes what we need is right there in front of us.

Prayer: Help us, Father, that our expectations do not close us off to divine truth. Allow us to always be willing to discover you in all places, through your son Jesus. Amen.

LA IDENTIDAD DEL MESÍAS

¿De dónde viene el Mesías?

Este pasaje llega con tensión entre la identidad de Jesús y las expectativas del pueblo judío respecto al Mesías esperado. La pregunta sobre la procedencia del Mesías nos obliga a reflexionar sobre nuestras propias expectativas en relación a Dios y su revelación con nosotros.  A menudo, esperamos que Dios actúe de maneras que se ajusten a nuestras ideas. Sin embargo, Jesús desafía estas expectativas al presentarse como el Hijo de Dios, que viene no solo de un lugar físico, sino con una misión divina que trasciende las limitaciones humanas.En este tiempo de Cuaresma, se nos recuerda que la verdadera comprensión de Jesús requiere una apertura del corazón y la mente. No debemos limitarnos a lo que vemos o conocemos, sino a tener disposición para reconocerle en lo inesperado. Dejemos de buscar más allá de lo que vemos en ocasiones lo que necesitamos esta justo en frente de nosotros.

Oración: Ayúdanos Padre para que nuestras expectativas no nos cierren a la verdad divina. Permite que siempre tengamos la disposición para descubrirte en todos los lugares, a través de tu hijo Jesús. Amén.
