LOVE ABOVE ALL ELSE

Mathew 5:38-48

Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

At the heart of the Sermon on the Mount lies a challenge from Jesus to his disciples. A call to perfection that does not refer to an unattainable flawlessness, but to a love that transcends human barriers. Loving our friends and those who love us is easy; the real challenge lies in extending that love to a degree that touches those who have hurt us, those who despise and humiliate us.

To be active in dialogue with our enemies is to understand that divine perfection is manifested in the capacity to love unconditionally. This love shifts from being a feeling to being a decision, an action that translates into compassion, forgiveness, and empathy. The world is full of divisions and conflicts; today it is up to us to love above all else, to look beyond our differences, and to recognize our shared humanity. The true challenge is to love without reservation, following the example of Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, let us dwell in your presence and fill our hearts with your love so that we may share it with others. Amen.
