Suffering for the Sake of the Gospel

2 Timothy 2:1-10

Do not be ashamed, then, of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel, in the power of God. . .

We are often weighed down by those who sow discord for no reason at all; people frequently misinterpret our actions and judge us harshly. Faced with this, the following question may arise: What is the point of striving to be a Christian disciple if the result is only criticism and misunderstanding?

It is very painful to realize that, because of our Christian witness, we often face problems and difficulties. In such situations, we tend to withdraw and think: “It’s better not to get so involved. Is it worth going against the grain?”

But the truth is that there are always situations in which sharing a worthy witness of faith, taking Jesus Christ as our model or example to follow, yields abundant spiritual fruit in our lives and in the lives of others who, because of our actions, also decide to draw near and live out the genuine call to ethical relationships that Jesus taught us. In this way, we show that we are on the right path; therefore, it is worth accepting whatever consequences that may entail.

Prayer: We pray today, Lord, that your strength and courage may inspire us to face adversity and affliction. Strengthen us in our faith and in our communion with you. Amen.

Las Aflicciones por el Evangelio

2 Timoteo 2:1-10

“No te avergüences, pues, de dar testimonio a favor de nuestro Señor; ni tampoco te avergüences de mí, preso por causa suya. Antes bien, con las fuerzas que Dios te da, acepta tu parte en los sufrimientos que vienen por causa del evangelio”.

2 Timoteo 1: 8

A menudo nos agobian quienes se encargan de sembrar cizaña sin razón alguna, muchas veces la gente malinterpreta nuestras acciones y nos juzgan mal; y ante esto, nos puede surgir la siguiente pregunta: ¿de qué vale esforzarse en el discipulado cristiano si lo que resulta es crítica e incomprensión?

Es bien doloroso comprobar que muchas veces, por causa de nuestro testimonio cristiano, nos sobrevienen problemas y dificultades. En tales situaciones tendemos a replegarnos y pensar: -es mejor no comprometerse tanto. ¿valdrá la pena ir/estar contracorriente?

Pero lo cierto, es que siempre hay situaciones en las que compartir un digno testimonio de fe, tomando a Jesucristo como modelo o patrón a seguir, deja frutos espirituales abundantes en nuestras vidas y en la de otros que, a causa de nuestro actuar, deciden también acercarse y vivir la genuina propuesta de relaciones éticas que nos ensenó Jesús.  Así mostramos que estamos en el camino correcto; por lo que vale la pena asumir cualquier consecuencia que eso traiga consigo.

Oración: Rogamos en este día Señor, para que tu fuerza y valor nos inspiren para enfrentar la adversidad y la aflicción. Fortalécenos en la fe y en nuestra comunión contigo. Amén.
