A Living Sacrifice

Romans 12:1-3

I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, on the basis of God’s mercy, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. . .\

Among the ritual practices at the Temple in Jerusalem, the offering of daily animal sacrifices was an indispensable part of worship. In a way, for many, it was a means of keeping God favorable and earning His favor. When someone broke the Law, they were likewise required to offer an animal for sacrifice, assuming that their sin was somehow atoned for by the death of the victim on the altar of burnt offerings.

According to Paul, the true sacrifice is the one made every day and in all circumstances. The Apostle knows what that kind of self-giving, as a living offering, has meant to him personally. His humble and incarnate attitude, following the example of Jesus Christ, led him to a ministry that reached many in various places.

What does it mean to present ourselves to God as a living sacrifice? How do we put into practice today the command to present ourselves as a living sacrifice? Let us consider these proposals: let us always uphold the value of love above any circumstance or reality. Let us make God’s Word our own and allow it to inspire us to act. To God be the glory!

Prayer: Lord, we want to offer you our lives as a sacrifice that gives glory to your name. Train us for your mission. Through Jesus Christ we ask this. Amen.

Un Sacrificio Vivo

Romanos 12:1-3

“Hermanos míos, les ruego por la misericordia de Dios que se presenten ustedes mismos como ofrenda viva, santa y agradable a Dios”.

Dentro de las prácticas rituales en el Templo de Jerusalén la presentación de sacrificios diarios de animales era insoslayable. De alguna manera, para muchos, era una vía para mantener a Dios propicio, ganarse su favor. Cuando alguien ofendía la Ley, igualmente debía presentar un animal para el sacrificio, asumiendo que de alguna manera su pecado quedaba saldado con la muerte de la víctima en el altar de los holocaustos.

Acorde con Pablo, el verdadero sacrifico es el de cada día y en todas las circunstancias. El Apóstol sabe lo que le ha significado a él en lo personal ese tipo de entrega, como ofrenda viva. Su actitud humilde y encarnada, siguiendo el ejemplo de Jesucristo, le llevó a un ministerio para alcanzar a muchos en diversos lugares.

¿Qué implica presentarnos a Dios como ofrenda viva? ¿Hoy cómo hacemos realidad el mandato de presentarnos como un sacrificio vivo? Consideremos estas proposiciones: promovamos siempre el valor del amor sobre cualquier circunstancia o realidad. Hagamos nuestra la Palabra de Dios y que nos inspire para actuar. ¡A Dios sea la gloria!

Oración: Señor, queremos entregarte nuestras vidas como una ofrenda que rinda tributo a tu nombre. Instrúyenos para tu misión. Por Jesucristo te lo pedimos. Amén.
