The Lord Strengthens

2 Timothy 4:16-18

But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it.

2 Timothy 4:17 (NRSV)

There are times when our strength seems to fail us, difficult circumstances weigh us down, and everything seems so overwhelming that at times we just want to give up, abandon the fight, and die. This is not a situation unique to the modern world; throughout history, there have been stories that reflect this reality.

The apostle Paul was overwhelmed by Jewish persecution, by a lack of resources, and by the abandonment and betrayal of some of his close associates; yet he was able to share his testimony with Timothy: “The Lord helped me and gave me strength.”

 It is a condition of human life to find ourselves entangled in difficulties of various kinds; today we face very difficult situations in our contexts: shortages of food and medicine, instability in transportation, and violence and selfishness. How these circumstances overwhelm us! But what can we do? If we manage to go to Jesus with all that burden, entrust our anxieties and pains to Him, and learn to rest in Him, then we will know that the Lord strengthens us, and we will be able to proclaim praise to Him.

Prayer: Lord, we turn to you for strength. We are confident that your presence will always be with us, because of your mercy. We recognize that the harvest is plentiful, but with you we will accomplish great things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

El Señor Fortalece

2 Timoteo 4: 16-18

Pero el Señor sí me ayudó y me dio fuerzas, de modo que pude llevar a cabo la predicación del mensaje de salvación y hacer que lo oyeran todos

Hay momentos en que nuestras fuerzas parecen flaquear, difíciles circunstancias nos agobian y todo parece ser tan abrumador que en ocasiones solo deseamos renunciar a cualquier esfuerzo, abandonar la lucha, morir. Esto no es solo una situación que se experimenta en el mundo moderno; en todas las épocas han existido historias que reflejan esta realidad.

El apóstol Pablo estaba abrumado por la persecución judía, por la falta de recursos, por el abandono y la traición de algunos de sus cercanos colaboradores; aun así, puede comparte su testimonio a Timoteo: el Señor me ayudó y me dio fuerzas.

Es condición de la vida humana el vernos envueltos en dificultades de diversa índole; hoy atravesamos situaciones bien difíciles en nuestros contextos: la escasez de alimentos y medicinas, la inestabilidad en el transporte y la violencia y el egoísmo. ¡Cómo nos abruman estas circunstancias! Pero, ¿qué hacer? Si logramos ir a Jesús con toda esa carga, confiarle nuestras angustias y dolores, y aprender a descansar en Él, entonces conoceremos que el Señor nos fortalece, y podremos proclamar alabanzas a Él.

Oración: Señor, acudimos a ti en busca de fortaleza. Estamos seguros/as que tu compañía será perenne, por la muestra de tu misericordia. Reconocemos que la mies es mucha, pero contigo lograremos grandes cosas. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén.
