Friday, May 22 ROBINSON CRUSOE, YES AND NO MATTHEW 19: 1-6

Friday, May 22
                                          ROBINSON CRUSOE, YES AND NO
                                                         MATTHEW 19: 1-6
I will not leave you orphaned, I will come to you.
                                                                                                                               John 14:18

Robinson Crusoe is the central character in the novel by Daniel Defoe, in which the protagonist lives for twenty five years alone on a deserted island before being rescued. Although some think he really existed, it doesn’t detract from the fact that it was an arduous experience: “Solitude was always the worse company”.
Under those circumstances it’s less clear whether Robinson learned to know nature better, to discover uncommon secrets concealed from others, or to use his time in meditation and reflection without being interrupted or bothered.
But this scenario loses its “enchantment” when it starts to form a part of church life. Apart from familiar relations (“…the man will leave his father and mother and will join his wife”) the implied possibility is to lose interaction with those who form the great family of all those who hold Jesus Christ as their Lord. How many Robinsons are there in our churches?
Make a temple of each house and of each temple (ourselves) a faithful exponent of salvation’s message. As the Apostle Paul points out: Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

Prayer:  Lord, teach us to be connected and to be one, so that the world may believe. Amen.

SI Y NO DE ROBINSON CRUSOE
MATEO 19:1-6
No os dejaré huérfanos, vendré a vosotros
                                                  Juan 14:18

Thursday, May 21 THE SEEN AND UNSEEN MATTHEW 6: 19-21

                                                                                                             Thursday, May 21

                                                         THE SEEN AND UNSEEN

                                                              MATTHEW 6: 19-21
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also

                                                                                                                        Matthew 6: 21ª

A young girl in Africa gave her teacher a birthday present, a beautiful conch.
“Where did you find it?” asked the teacher.
The girl said that these shells were only found on a certain distant beach. The teacher was profoundly moved because she knew the girl would have had to walk many kilometers in search of the shell.
“You shouldn’t have traveled such a distance only to find me a present,” she commented.
The girl smiled and answered, “Teacher, the long walk is part of the present.”
The girl in this story knew quite well what it means to give a something of value to another person.  In our lives, apart from material things which have obvious value, we must also value those gifts God gives us, as many times these are the most important.
Jesus teaches us in his Sermon on the Mount that wherever we cast our gaze – our emphasis in life – there will be our true essence. Therefore, the conch as well as the search for it would have value for us, although the latter’s value may not be so apparent at first. For us a love poem, as well as the inspired nights that gave it birth would have value for us; or the unassuming drawing of a child as well as the love with which it’s presented.
May we learn to value both their plain value, and also the love, sacrifice, and devotion that’s concealed in them.

Prayer:  Lord, help us to recognize the essences of things and not to judge by appearances. Amen.

Lo que se ve y lo que no
Mateo 6:19-21

Wednesday, May 20 COME AND SEE John 1: 45-46

Wednesday, May 20

Celebration of the dependent IPR mission Cidra (Unión de Reyes)

                                                               COME AND SEE
                                                                  John 1: 45-46

Nathaniel said to him “Can any good come from Nazareth?”
                                                              And Phillip said to him,
                                                                  “Come and see”.
                                                                                                                       John 1: 46

Frequently, on being converted to Christ, we hear it said that God is calling us. On other occasions we proclaim the same thing through song, but we know what God is calling us to, the exhortation is plain: Go out unto the world and preach the Gospel.
That’s why I’d like to reflect on the call made to Nathaniel in this text; since it’s through him we find a practical lesson, a spontaneous and effective evangelism. Like Philip we are called to approach our neighbor. We can all find our own Nathaniel and be able to clearly and sincerely share with him who we’ve known (of whom was it written, the son of Joseph…). So challenge your Nathaniel to experience it for himself. A single phrase can be the key to bring other people to know Jesus: Come and see.
We have been charged to announce the good news; we should do it in a simple and practical way. One doesn’t have to have a degree in theology, we’re all enabled. Get busy like Philip and share Christ from the perspective of your own experiences.

Prayer:  Thank you Lord for persisting in extending the call to your sons and daughters. Help us to share your message and be the agent for others to know and follow you. Amen.

VEN Y VE
JUAN  1: 45-46

Tuesday, May 19 SIGNS OF THE END TIMES? MATTHEW 24:3-28

Tuesday, May 19
                                                  SIGNS OF THE END TIMES?
                                                           MATTHEW 24:3-28
For nation shall rise against nation,
                                                        kingdom against kingdom,
and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

                                                                                                                             Matthew 24: 7

My message is not apocalyptic; it doesn’t speak of the end times of which only God has prescience. Since antiquity we know there have been bloody wars, and empires ever assume to be more powerful, oppressing weaker peoples. In Jesus’ time the Roman Empire was practically the ruler of the known world, using its force to achieve dominion. But today in the Twenty-First Century, a period of scientific advancements, of Internet which facilitates easy and rapid global communications, why then are the same barbarous and cruel acts being repeated, or perhaps even worse? The answer lies in that God’s word is being ignored. Generally speaking, instead of gentleness, humility, patience and love one sees high doses of intolerance, arrogance, egotism, greed for power and riches, religious extremism, and terrorism by suicide bombers, even to the point of employing ten year old children to carry bombs. And I ask myself, what God are these people serving?

Brothers, let us carry the love of Christ in our hearts and offer it to our neighbor. We may not be able to change the world, but we will indeed improve our community.

Prayer:  God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, have mercy on the world and all your creation; imbue our hearts with your peace, love, and goodness. Amen.

¿SEÑALES ANTES DEL FIN?
MATEO 24:3-28

Monday, May 18 GIVE HEALTHILY MATTHEW 6:1-4

Monday, May 18
GIVE HEALTHILY
MATTHEW 6:1-4

Each of you must give as you have made up your mind,
not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Every week a lady passed by our church asking for material assistance, always repeating very seriously, “I ask because God says ‘ask and you shall receive’. One day a worker in the church, also very serious, asked her, “Madam, have you not heard that God says ‘it’s better to give than to receive’?
There are times when we believe we have nothing to give, and thereby lose the incomparable joy of sharing that with which God has blessed us. To give to others is a blessing; to help, share, serve, to give away. To be part of God’s love we need to give. The worst examples are when we give from our excess, or out of annoyance, or when we give in front of others so they can see us doing it, or when we give out of feelings of guilt, pity, embarrassment, or obligation.
We have to try to give healthily. To give in this way is to give so that we feel satisfied, to give so that they who receive as well as give retain their self-esteem. It’s giving based on the desire to do so; it’s giving without conditions.
It may be that we give of our time, effort, energy, consolation, kindness, money, or even of ourselves; in any case it should be a healthy giving: lovingly, correctly, cleanly, and unbiased, as an equal to an equal, recognizing that everything we have has been given us by the Lord.

Prayer:  Thank you Father for the perfect gift you  have given us in Jesus Christ. May we share it in service to others. Amen.

DAR   SANAMENTE
MATEO  6:1-4

Sunday, May 17 Ascension Sunday End of The Week of the Family AND YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES ACTS 1:1-11

Sunday, May 17
Ascension Sunday
End of The Week of the Family

AND YOU WILL BE MY WITNESSES
ACTS 1:1-11

And they went out and proclaimed the good news
everywhere while the Lord worked with them and confirmed
the message by the signs that accompanied it.
Mark 16:20

Today the church celebrates the Ascension of the Lord, an event which occurred forty days after the Resurrection. The Ascension reminds us of the urgency of transmitting the faith we possess and live. Before rising to heaven to be seated at the right hand of God Jesus asked his disciples to be his witnesses in the world. That task he set us is nothing easy!

There are Christians who, ignoring Jesus’ commandment, take no interest in the world’s affairs and live a disembodied faith. But Jesus didn’t just call us to look towards heaven, but to walk the earth, announce the good news, and to implicate ourselves in such important things as the defense of life, human dignity, justice and peace.

If Christ is with us, who can be against us? It’s time to be committed Christians. Let us not hide when we see that the world needs the Good News. Remember, we were called to give witness to the Truth.

Prayer:  Lord, you who rose to heaven to intercede for us before the Father, give us today what you promised us and at the end of the journey permit us to tell you that we have finished what you asked of us. Amen

Culmina la Semana de la Familia
Domingo de la Ascensión del Señor

Y SERÁN MIS TESTIGOS
HECHOS  1:1-11
El Señor los ayudaba confirmando la palabra
con las señales que la acompañaban.
Marcos 16:20

Saturday, May 16 SPOUSAL LOVE IS LIKE A GARDEN Psalm 128:3-6

Saturday, May 16
SPOUSAL LOVE IS LIKE A GARDEN
Psalm 128:3-6

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for her.
Ephesians 5:25

A husband went to visit a wise counselor and told him he didn’t love his wife and was thinking of separating.

The wise man listened, looked the man in the eyes, and spoke only two words, “Love her.” Then he became silent.
“But it’s that I don’t feel anything for her anymore,” said the husband.
“Love her,” responded the wise man. And after an appropriate silence, and seeing that the husband was disconcerted, he added the following:

“To love is a decision, not a feeling; to love is dedication and surrender. Love is a verb, and the fruit of that action is love. Love is an exercise in gardening: pull out the weeds, prepare the soil, sow, have patience, pray and tend. Be prepared because there will be plagues, droughts, or excessive rains; but don’t abandon your garden because of them. Love your spouse; that is, accept her, value her, respect her, give her affection and tenderness, admire and understand her.”

That’s all…Love her.

Prayer:  God of love, today we ask your blessing for couples and for marriage. Help them in that difficult task to nurture love every day, as well as to create and maintain a home. In your name we pray, Amen.

EL AMOR EN PAREJAS ES COMO UN JARDÍN
SALMO  128:3-6
