PERSEVERANCE IN PRAYER

COLOSSIANS 4:2-3

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

It’s interesting to note how many passages in the Holy Scriptures speak of prayer. Having barely opened the Bible, we read in chapter 4, verse 26 of the Book of Genesis: “At that time people began to call on the name of the Lord.” 

The examples are numerous: Job crying out for fullness of life; Daniel, who prays three times a day; and David, who always implores with all his heart. On the mountain we see Elijah crying out for his life as well.

Later, in the New Testament, we find Paul and Silas praying in jail. What else do these texts teach us if not the necessity of prayer? We can be certain that of all things that God has stressed in his Word, he wants prayer to occupy an important place in our lives. If there are so many examples of prayer to God it’s because we need them.

Praying brings us much closer to God. Prayer is the cry of the believer who struggles; prayer is a Christian’s breath, consolation, and strength. A prayerful life would fulfill our spiritual need to be much closer to God.

Prayer:  Lord, grant that we may be humble, conscientious and patient; help us to be steadfast in the power and the trust that prayer to you provides. Help us also so that we do not use prayer solely in moments of need. We ask you that you give us a prayerful life. Amen.

Perseverad en la oración,

velando en ella con acción de gracias

Es interesante notar cuántos pasajes en las Sagradas Escrituras hablan de la oración. Apenas abrimos la Biblia leemos en el Capítulo 4, verso 26 del libro de Génesis: “Entonces empezaron a invocar el nombre del Señor”.

Son innumerables los ejemplos: Job clamando por su plenitud de vida, Daniel que ora tres veces por día, y David que siempre clamaba con todo su corazón. En el monte vemos a Elías también clamando por su vida. Hallamos luego en el Nuevo Testamento a Pablo y a Silas que oran en el calabozo ¿Qué otra cosa nos enseñan los textos sino la necesidad de la oración?

Estemos seguros de que cualquier cosa que Dios ha destacado en su Palabra, desea que ocupe un lugar importante en nuestras vidas. Si son tantos los ejemplos de oración a Dios, es porque tenemos necesidad de ella.

Orar nos acerca más a Dios. La oración es el clamor del creyente que lucha, la oración es la respiración, el consuelo y la fortaleza del cristiano. Una vida orante respondería a las necesidades de nuestra espiritualidad para estar más cercanos a Dios.

Oración: Señor, concédenos ser humildes, celosos y pacientes, ayúdanos a permanecer firmes en el poder y la confianza que brinda la oración a ti. Ayúdanos también para que no sólo hagamos uso de la oración en momentos de necesidad. Te pedimos que nos concedas una vida orante. Amén.
