SEVENTY TIMES SEVEN

MATTHEW 18:15-35

…Then Peter came to Jesus and asked,

“Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother and sister who sins against me?

Up to seven times?” 

  Matthew 18: 21

    

Jesus is unequivocal in his answer to the question Peter asks: “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven.” And it illustrates in a way nothing and no one can impede, that the message of the Kingdom of God is to expand every which way.

Forgiving, renewing, and reconciling ourselves are the means by which God requires us to live. To accomplish it, reflection, repentance, logical discernment and prayer it is vital for us to walk the extra mile, and to yield space in pursuit of the improvement of our human relationships.

    

To forgive, even to seventy times seven is to do unto others what we would have them do unto us. This means to put respect, and the rights of all human beings to feel fragile, weak, welcomed and restored; to feel oneself to be a human being above all else.   

   

Finally, because God is one, and forgives us in his revitalizing grace, we are obligated that much more to be forgivers of one another, and to live in peace.

Prayer:  Lord, remove all rancor from us. Help us to be forgivers to the degree that we can construct bridges of reconciliation every day of our lives. Amen.

SETENTA VECES SIETE

MATEO 18:15-35

…Entonces se le acercó Pedro y le dijo:

Señor, ¿cuántas veces perdonaré a mi hermano? ¿Hasta siete?...                

  Mateo 18: 21

Jesús es categórico en su respuesta a la pregunta que Pedro hace… no te digo hasta siete, sino aun hasta setenta veces siete… e ilustra; de modo que nada ni nadie pueda impedir que el mensaje del Reino de Dios se expanda por doquier.

Perdonar, renovar, reconciliarnos, son los medios a través de los cuales Dios nos exige que vivamos. Para ello, se hace urgente, la reflexión, el arrepentimiento, el discernimiento lógico y la oración que nos hace caminar una milla más, ceder espacio, en pos del mejoramiento de las relaciones humanas.

Perdonar hasta setenta veces siete es: ser con los demás como queremos que sean con nosotros. Esto significa poner por encima de todo, el respeto y el derecho que tiene todo ser humano a sentirse frágil, débil, acogido y restaurado, a sentirse ser humano.

En fin, porque Dios uno es y en su gracia vivificadora nos perdona, cuánto más no estamos obligados a ser perdonadores unos con otros y vivir en paz.  

Oración: Señor, quita de nosotros todos los rencores. Ayúdanos a ser lo suficientemente perdonadores, de manera que cada día podamos construir puentes de reconciliación. Amén.
