THE BEST WAY TO PRAY

HABAKKUK 1:1-4

Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness

Hebrews 4:16 (NRSV)

            Recently someone told me about a new Christian who was attending his first meeting and who felt embarrassed to pray aloud because he couldn’t do it like the others. After some encouragement, he stood up and said, “Lord, I am the one who met you last Thursday night, Forgive me, Lord, for I can’t say it the way the rest of these people do, but I want to tell you the best way I know how: I love you. Amen.” This man’s simple prayer ignited the meeting with prayer.

            Many people think that they don’t know how to pray because they put too much emphasis on how the words sound before God and other people.  The most important thing is that we be honest and open with God. Eloquence is not necessary, only transparency.

            For example, the prophet Habakkuk spoke with God in a very simple and open manner. He said that he was troubled by the deceptive and violent people who flourished and prospered by their crimes. Then, when he felt puzzled by God’s attitude, he showed that he was waiting to know how God was going to reply to his questions.

            So, don’t worry about your words. Simply tell them to God from your heart. This is the best way to pray.

Prayer: Lord, teach us to pray and increase our faith. Amen.

HABACUC 1:1-4

Acerquémonos, pues, confiadamente al trono de la gracia

Hebreos 4:16

Alguien me contaba hace poco de un nuevo cristiano que estaba asistiendo a su primera reunión y que se sentía avergonzado de orar en voz alta, porque no podía hacerlo como los otros. Tras algo de aliento, se levantó y dijo: “Señor, soy aquel que te encontró el jueves pasado por la noche. Perdóname Señor, porque no puedo decirlo de la manera que lo dice el resto de esta gente, pero quiero decírtelo de la mejor manera que sé: te amo. Amén.” La sencilla oración de este hombre encendió la reunión de oración.

Muchas personas piensan que no saben cómo orar porque ponen demasiado énfasis en cómo sonarán las palabras ante Dios y los demás. Pero lo que más importa es que seamos honrados y abiertos para con Dios. No es necesaria la elocuencia, pero sí la transparencia.

El profeta Habacuc, por ejemplo, habló con Dios de manera muy sencilla y abierta. Dijo que estaba turbado acerca de la gente engañosa y violenta que florecía y que prosperaba con sus crímenes. Luego, cuando se sintió perplejo ante la actitud de Dios, manifestó que esperaría expectante para saber cómo Él iba a responder a sus preguntas.

Así que no te preocupes acerca de tus palabras. Sencillamente háblale a Dios desde tu corazón. Esta es la mejor manera de orar
