GOD IS PATIENT WITH US

ISAIAH 42:1-7

A bruised reed he will not break… (NIV)

Isaiah 42:3

A youth who was walking along a rural path pulled out reeds from the roadside to make a flute. He chose a straight piece, cut the holes, notched, and blew. But no music came out. He cut and fussed with it a bit more, but it still did not produce music. Frustrated, he finally cut the reed in two and threw it into the ditch.    

There are many cascading reeds in Christ’s body, people who have been injured in life’s battles. The Lord wants to draw music from their lives, and to do so needs to give them size and form. But He will never do what that young man did with his reed. He doesn’t give up on his own, nor throw them aside. He keeps working with them. He knows how much they can withstand; how much they need trimming and retouching. He is patient and gentle. This is what Isaiah was describing by saying, “He will not break the cascading cane.”

Considering how compassionate the Lord has been in his dealings with me I feel ashamed by my impatience with others, especially when words of kindness and a loving hand could have awakened a melody in a broken heart. Many people are like broken reeds and need us to treat them with Christian love and gentleness.

Prayer:  God of mercy, we want to be Christians and have patience and love in our personal dealings. We want to follow your example. Amen.

DIOS ES PACIENTE CON NOSOTROS

ISAÍAS 42:1-7

No quebrará la caña cascada…

Isaías 42:3

Un joven que caminaba por una senda rural arrancó cañas de la cuneta para hacer una flauta. Escogió un trozo recto, recortó los puntos, hizo una muesca y sopló. Pero no daba música. Cortó y manipuló un poco más, pero seguía sin producir música. Finalmente, frustrado, partió la caña en dos y la volvió a echar en la cuneta.

Hay muchas cañas cascadas en el cuerpo de Cristo. Personas que han recibido daño en las luchas de la vida. El Señor quiere sacar música de sus vidas y para ello tiene que darles tamaño y forma. Pero Él nunca hará lo que aquel muchacho hizo con su caña. Él no ceja con los suyos ni los echa a un lado, sigue trabajando con ellos. Sabe cuánto pueden soportar, cuanto necesitan de recorte y de retoque. Es paciente y gentil. Esto es lo que Isaías estaba describiendo al decir: No quebrará la caña cascada.

Pensando en cuán compasivo ha sido el Señor en sus tratos conmigo, me siento avergonzado de mi impaciencia con otros, especialmente cuando palabras de amabilidad y una mano amante pudieran haber despertado una melodía en un corazón quebrantado. Muchas personas son como cañas quebradas y necesitan que las tratemos con amor cristiano y gentileza.

Oración: Dios de misericordia, queremos ser cristianos y tener paciencia y amor en un trato personal. Queremos seguir tu ejemplo. Amén.
