VICTORY OVER DEATH

MARK 5:21-43

I have heard it said on certain occasions that whatever problem can be resolved with money isn’t a problem. It’s true that there are many problems that can be solved with money on the personal as well as national character. At times other problems require something more than money, demanding feelings and even profound changes in the mind and soul.

Nevertheless, there’s a problem that requires nothing less than the powerful intervention of God’s own hand. This is the problem of death.  

The story is narrated in the gospel of Mark of a man who wanted to avoid his daughter’s death and ran to ask for Jesus’ help, whereupon he heard the worst of all possible news. His friends were informing him, “Forget it! Don’t bother Jesus anymore. Your daughter is already dead.”  But the Lord encouraged him with a special phrase, “Do not be afraid, only believe.”  

The story ends when Jesus arrives at the house of the child, and to everyone’s surprise says to them, “The child is not dead, just sleeping.” 

With God’s power He gave the child victory over death. In this simple way, anticipate what is to come:  Jesus will have the victory over death, and will resurrect us in the same way that he gave life to this child.

Prayer:  Make it that Jesus’ victory over death be my victory as well. Amen.

VICTORIA SOBRE LA MUERTE

MARCOS 5:21-43

La niña no está muerta, sino dormida

Marcos 5:39

Escuché decir en cierta ocasión que cualquier problema que se pueda resolver con dinero no es problema. Efectivamente, hay muchos problemas que pueden resolverse con dinero, tanto de carácter personal como nacional. Otros problemas requieren a veces algo más que el dinero y reclaman sentimientos y hasta cambios profundos en la mente y en el alma. Sin embargo, hay un problema que requiere nada más que la intervención poderosa de la mano de Dios mismo. Este es el problema de la muerte.

En el evangelio de Marcos se nos narra la historia de un hombre que quería evitar la muerte de su hija y corrió a pedir ayuda a Jesús. De pronto escuchó la peor de todas las noticias. Sus amigos le estaban informando: ¡Olvídate! No molestes más a Jesús. Tu hija ya está muerta. Pero el Señor le alienta con una frase especial: No tengas miedo, cree solamente. El relato finaliza cuando Jesús llega a la casa de la niña y para asombro de todos les dice: La niña no está muerta, sino dormida.

Con el poder de Dios, Él le dio a la niña la victoria sobre la muerte. De esta forma sencilla, anticipa lo que ha de venir: Jesús tendrá la victoria sobre la muerte y nos resucitará de la misma manera que dio vida a esta niña.

Oración: Dios, haz que la victoria de Jesús sobre la muerte sea mi victoria también. Amén.
