IN PATIENCE

1 Corinthians 13:4

By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,

Galatians 5:22 (NRSV)

            Love is patient. Let’s note that the first adjective that the Apostle Paul uses to describe love is patient. The Lord appreciates this quality in his followers, although it may not be very common in these frantic days of the 21^st century.

            Patient people can remain calm while enduring long waits or dealing with difficult people or problems.

            God urges us today to examine our own lives to see how we respond to waiting and to difficulties. This will give us a measure of how patient and loving we are.

            Patience appears fourth in the list of the fruits of the Spirit.  The Holy Spirit will help us to grow in this important feature of our character, especially if we ask for it. Many Christians fear asking for patience. However, in God’s Reign suffering serves an important purpose and trials are not optional. They come so that our faith can be tested as genuine and can result in praise, glory, and honor to God.

 

Prayer: Lord, help me to cultivate my patience. I know how many blessings that will bring into my life. Amen.

CON PACIENCIA

1 Corintios 13:4

Mas el fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fe

Gálatas 5:22

            El amor es paciente. Observemos que el primer adjetivo que el apóstol Pablo usa para describir el amor es: paciente.  El Señor aprecia esta cualidad en sus seguidores, aunque no sea muy común en estos agitados días del siglo 21.

            La gente paciente puede mantener la calma mientras soporta largas esperas o trata con personas o problemas difíciles.

            Dios nos anima hoy a examinar nuestra propia vida para ver cómo respondemos a las esperas y las dificultades. Esto nos dará una medida de cuán paciente y amoroso somos.

            La paciencia aparece en cuarto lugar en la lista de los frutos del Espíritu. El Espíritu Santo nos ayudará a crecer en este importante rasgo de nuestro carácter, especialmente si se lo pedimos. Muchos cristianos tememos pedir paciencia. Creen que el Señor nos va a responder sometiéndonos a severos sufrimientos y pruebas. Sin embargo, en su Reino el sufrimiento sirve a un importante propósito y las pruebas no son opcionales. Ellas vienen para que nuestra fe pueda ser probada como genuina y pueda resultar en alabanza, gloria y honra a Dios.

 

Oración: Ayúdame Señor, a cultivar mi paciencia. Sé de cuantas bendiciones eso traerá a mi vida. Amén.
