BE STILL; I AM GOD

Psalm 46

Be still, and know that I am God!

Psalm 46:10a (NRSV)

            We live in a period of movement, of action, of constant struggle. Our lives are marked by agitation. Lack of enough time is the common denominator in the lives of the majority of people. It makes it difficult to be able to listen to God’s voice in the midst of so much noise, so much bustle, so much hurry. It seems that the tumult of the world doesn’t let God hear us.

            Above all the agitation of human existence one hears the same message that the psalmist sang in immortal form: I am God, who is also your tranquility and security, our fortress and strength, our very present help in trouble.

            We often don’t have the time to remember God, and so lament together with sincere believers, that on account of so many worries they can’t set aside a time for God. But God continues being God, the All Powerful who hopes for our sincere worship and recognition of his Lordship.

            Ours is the assignment to exalt God’s name among those around us. Although they are not disposed to recognize God, although they don’t want to listen, we must press ahead and proclaim our faith in God who is God despite this hectic life we have invented.

 

Prayer: Lord, help us to live the life that is ours to live. Amen.

ESTAD QUIETOS: YO SOY DIOS

Salmo 46

Estad quietos, y conoced que yo soy Dios

Salmo 46:10a

            Vivimos en una época de movimiento, de acción, de lucha constante. La agitación caracteriza nuestra vida. La falta de tiempo es el denominador común de la vida de la mayoría de las personas. Se hace difícil también poder escuchar la voz de Dios en medio de tanto ruido, tanto bullicio, tanta rapidez. Parece como si la bulla del mundo no permitiera a Dios escucharnos.

            Por encima de toda agitación de la existencia del hombre, se escucha el mismo mensaje que el salmista cantó en forma inmortal: Yo soy Dios, que es también, para nuestra tranquilidad y seguridad, nuestro amparo y fortaleza, nuestro pronto auxilio en las tribulaciones.

            Muchas veces no tenemos tiempo para acordarnos de Dios, y así se lamentan aun los creyentes sinceros, que no pueden, debido a tantas preocupaciones, separar un tiempo para Dios. Pero Él sigue siendo el mismo, el Todopoderoso que espera de nosotros adoración sincera y reconocimiento de su señorío.

            Tenemos la encomienda de exaltar el nombre de Dios entre los demás. Aunque no estén dispuestos a reconocerle, aunque no nos quieran escuchar, tendremos que seguir adelante y proclamar nuestra fe en  Dios, y que es Dios a pesar de esta vida tan agitada que hemos inventado.

 

Oración: Señor, ayúdanos a vivir la vida que nos toca. Amén.
