A DEBT PAID

Hebrews 4:14-16

If you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts… (NIV)

            Upon arriving in a city, a certain nobleman who was traveling, had the following announcement posted, “I will pay the debts of anyone who comes to see me tomorrow  between eight and twelve o’clock.”

            Eleven o’clock struck without anyone having come. Shortly after, a very timid and ashamed man arrived and said to him, “Sir, is it true that you promised to pay the debts of whatever person who came to see you?”  “Yes, that’s how it really is; how much do you owe?” The man stated the sum and the gentleman wrote a check for that value. Afterwards, another came, and the same thing happened. 

            On exiting to the street, they found themselves among many who were disposed to make fun of them for having been so gullible as to have let themselves be tricked. But great was their surprise when they saw the checks they had in their hands. Thereupon, they ran to the house, but it was already late. The door was closed. They left sad for not having believed.

            This is an illustration about the forgiveness of sins, which is the freely given gift of God. There is a specified time in which one finds the door to grace open. It will not always be so. There will come a time when it will be too late to be able to reach the salvation of God. The only time is now, today.

 

Prayer: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for paying that debt for me, because you know I couldn’t pay it. Amen.

UNA DEUDA PAGADA

Hebreos 4:14-16

Si oyereis hoy  su voz, no endurezcáis vuestros corazones

Hebreos 3:15

            Al llegar a una ciudad, cierto noble que andaba viajando, mandó a fijar el siguiente anuncio: “Pagaré las deudas de cualquiera que venga a verme mañana entre las ocho y las doce del día.”

            Dieron las once del día sin que nadie hubiese acudido. Poco tiempo después fue llegando un hombre que con mucha timidez y vergüenza le dijo: “Señor, ¿es cierto que usted ha prometido pagar las deudas de cualquier persona que venga a verle?” “Sí, efectivamente así es. ¿Cuáánto debe usted?” El hombre  dijo cuánto era y el caballero extendió un cheque por ese valor. Después vino otro y pasó exactamente igual.

            Al salir a la calle se hallaron con muchos dispuestos a burlarse  de ellos por haber sido tan crédulos y haberse dejado engañar. Pero grande fue su sorpresa al ver los cheques que tenían en la mano. Entonces corrieron a la casa, pero ya era tarde. La puerta estaba cerrada. Se fueron tristes por no haber creído.

            Esta es una ilustración acerca del perdón de pecados, que es el don gratuito de Dios. Hay un tiempo especificado durante el cual se halla abierta la puerta de gracia. No siempre será así. Llegará un tiempo cuando será demasiado tarde para poder alcanzar la salvación de Dios. El único tiempo es ahora, hoy.

Oración:  Gracias Señor Jesús, por pagar por mí esa deuda, porque sabías que yo no podía pagarla. Amén.
