TURN TO GOD

Matthew 3.1-12

Repent of you sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.

Matthew 3:2  (NRSV) 

            John announces the arrival of Jesus as the Messiah, and in his preaching, tells us that we must turn to God as an indispensable condition to receiving Jesus.

            To turn to God is to change the direction of our steps;  if we before walked away with our backs turned, now we must direct our paths and our gaze towards God. He comes to meet us in the person of Jesus. Just as we wait for a known friend, now we wait for him.

            We know that Jesus considers us his friends if we remember his words –“I no longer call you servants … I have called you friends… (Jn 15:15). Let’s thank God because we can feel our hearts beating in the certainty of his proximity, and  we will know the happiness and worth of  having him as that friend who comes to meet us.

            Waiting for Jesus brings joy to our hearts and makes us feel privileged by the touch of his grace. That is why he called those blessed, who have a willing heart to receive the message of the Kingdom of God. According to the Gospel of Matthew 13: 16 –“blessed are you, because you have eyes that see and ears that hear”. Because we also enjoy that happiness, let’s proclaim it and live that way.

 

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your visit. Thank you for bringing us the light of hope, reconciliation and peace. Amen.

VOLVERSE A DIOS

Mateo 3.1-12

¡Vuélvanse a Dios,  porque el reino de los cielos  está cerca!

Mateo 3:2b  

            Juan anuncia la llegada de Jesús como el Mesías, y en su predicación nos dice que debemos volvernos a Dios como condición indispensable para recibir a Jesús.

            Volverse a Dios es cambiar la dirección de nuestros pasos; si antes nos alejábamos dándole las espaldas, ahora debemos dirigir nuestros caminos y nuestra mirada hacia Dios. Él viene a nuestro encuentro en la persona de Jesús, así como nosotros esperamos a un amigo conocido, ahora le esperamos.

            Sabemos que Jesús nos considera sus amigos si recordamos sus palabras…ya no los llamo siervos,… los he llamado amigos… (Jn 15-15). Demos gracias a Dios porque podemos sentir palpitar nuestro corazón por la certeza de su proximidad, así sabremos lo que vale la felicidad de tenerle cómo ese amigo nuestro que viene a nuestro encuentro.

            Esperar a Jesús nos trae alegría al corazón y nos hace sentir privilegiados por el toque de su gracia. Por eso llamó dichosos a quienes tienen dispuesto el corazón para recibir el mensaje del Reino de Dios según el evangelio de Mateo 13.16… dichosos ustedes, porque tienen ojos que ven y oídos que oyen… Demos gracias a Dios porque nosotros también gozamos de esa dicha, proclamémosla y vivamos de ese modo.

 

Oración: Señor gracias por tu visitación, gracias por traernos la luz de la esperanza, la reconciliación y la paz. Amén.
