HAVE HOPE

1 Samuel  1: 1-8

Be strong,  and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord.

Psalm 31:24 (NRSV)

            This is one of the texts in which we discover that everything good that God gives birth to in our lives, needs fertile soil: trust, consistency, communion, a disposition of the spirit on which God counts. Hannah was a woman of faith. She had a very special relationship with God and was loved by her husband Elkanah. However, this was not enough. Her heart was  heavy, and she felt tormented. Her context forced her to have children to feel like a complete woman.

            The relationship of competition and rivalry between women, marked by those who had offspring and those who did not, shows a sad and difficult reality for families. Amid the context of injustice and exclusion, how can we have hope? How can we expect the new that God can do, so that there is full and abundant life for all? Hannah’s resource was prayer, and this is something very important, she also understood that she needed something more. We need a disposition of solidarity and not competition, to search for justice in our relationships like the genuine love of God that is beyond the limitations of our realities. We need to not become victimizers, once  we have been  victims.

            Even today our context is marked by unfair power relations, rivalries and discrimination. The question resounds once again: how can we  have hope?

            Let us pray and worship, yes, but let us also begin the change in ourselves. God asks us for consistency, the incessant search for justice, communion with his grace and with all his creation

 

Prayer: God of hope, allow us to have a life of prayer and commitment to your justice. Come with hope that heals and allows us to live in relationships of equity, and communion with your creation. Amen.

TENER ESPERANZA

1 Samuel  1: 1-8

Tengan ánimo, todos ustedes los que esperan en el Señor

Salmo 31:24

            Es este uno de los textos en el que descubrimos que todo lo bueno que Dios hace nacer en nuestra vida necesita de tierra fértil: confianza, coherencia, comunión; una disposición de espíritu con la que Dios cuenta. Ana era una mujer de fe. Ella tenía una relación muy especial con Dios y era amada por su esposo Elcana. Sin embargo, esto no le era suficiente. Su corazón estaba afligido y se sentía atormentada. Su contexto le obligaba a tener hijos para sentirse una mujer completa.

            Las relaciones de competencia y rivalidad entre las mujeres, marcadas por las que sí tenían descendencia y las que no, muestran una realidad triste y difícil para las familias. En medio de ese contexto de injusticia y exclusión ¿cómo tener esperanza? ¿Cómo esperar lo nuevo que Dios puede hacer, para que haya vida plena y abundante para todos? El recurso de Ana es la oración. Y esto es muy importante, pero también ella comprendió que necesitaba algo más. Necesitamos una disposición a la solidaridad y no a la competencia, a la búsqueda de la justicia en nuestras relaciones, a no convertirnos en victimarios, una vez que hemos sido víctimas. Como el amor genuino de Dios que está más allá de las limitaciones de nuestras realidades.

            También hoy nuestro contexto está marcado por relaciones injustas de poder, rivalidades, discriminaciones. La pregunta resuena una vez más: ¿cómo tener esperanza? Oremos y adoremos sí, pero también comencemos el cambio en nosotros mismos. Dios nos pide coherencia, búsqueda incesante de su justicia, comunión con su gracia y con toda su creación.

 

Oración: Dios de la esperanza, permítenos contar con una vida orante y comprometida con tu justicia. Ven con tu esperanza que sana y permite que podamos vivir relaciones de equidad, y comunión con toda tu creación. Amén.
